Constant Contact just ran a live nonprofit newsletter webinar and wanted to share a good question that a nonprofit asked.
Regarding the 85% informational/15% promotional rule, what about promoting events or activities that you want to invite your readers to be involved in? (Like a school supply drive)
We discussed in the webinar that 85% of the newsletter should be informational – meaning it doesn’t require any action from your supporters. It’s the information you provide that lets supporters feel connected to your organization and deepens their connection. As long as you are providing 85% informational content, there is nothing wrong with having 15% of your newsletter content be promotional, such as asking them to register for an event, donate, or sign a petition.
