Getting 401 Unauthorized Access error while trying to change application to use Basic authentication over https

Hi All,


As per the recent notification about changes required in applications to use Basic Authentication over https instead of Digest authentication, while I'm trying to change my application code in HttpWebRequest to use "Basic" authentication over https (by changing all api URLs to 'https' from http) I'm getting 401 Unautorized access error.


If I change URL to http and authentication type to 'Digest' it works without any other change.


Please let me know what's the problem with the authentication process or if its still not activated and only Digest authentication is working right now.

Hi Akhilesh,


Basic Authentication has been active for almost 3 months now.  You should be able to use it without problem once you convert your code to encrypt using Basic Authentication over SSL.

Hi Dave,


Few things are still not clear.  You have mentioned "using Basic Authentication over SSL"


Does this means that the application where we using this code should also be hosted and run from "https" ? If yes then how we can test the same in development environment as here we do not have SSL implemented and applications run with http only.


Another concern is what if we are using the same in a windows application? How to use SSL in windows application?
