All Around Feedback

I'd like to get some all around feedback. We are a small software and consulting services company. We send out a monthly newsletter. They are usually designed like this, with four stories and buttons. Our open rate is 20% and our click rate is 2%.

I'm wondering if a design change is needed, it's been like this for awhile. How would you change it?

If there another way to get people to click the buttons?

What other feedback do you have?

Hi and thanks for posting the screenshot, that is very helpful!

Yes, there are several things that can be improved in your email, to make it more effective!

As one of the largest Certified Solution Providers of Constant Contact, we manage a large number of email newsletters each month, and very often, it's folks like you who reach out to us because they see the value of staying in touch with your contacts, but may not have the time, desire or skill to develop outstanding emails.

Here are some initial suggestions and questions:

  • What is the from email name and address?
  • What is the subject line?
  • Give the email a name, not "Monthly News & Updates" as it's obvious what it is and the title does not tell me why I should read it
  • Don't put a Call to Action at the top - too soon - first explain, then ask
  • The black copy on images makes it hard to read the copy and the see the images. Use captions instead
  • For the CTA buttons, give people a reason why they should click on them
  • The footer is an important element and you may want to consider adding a person's name and picture, so it feels like it's coming from someone.
  • Although social media is important, you are devoting much space to it. Consider putting more effort into getting people to contact you to talk about YOUR business.
  • Include a menu bar
  • Try to use the font and design elements from your website to further brand your email.
  • On the website, offer something of value to incentivize people to sign up for your newsletter (don't just offer the newsletter) - you'll get more subscribers.

These are just quick comments from an initial review. If you'd like to continue this conversation, please take a peek at how we support Constant Contact customers and reach out.
