feature request most asked by clients - RSS to Email

My clients want to use one tool for sending their blog posts via email - as well as doing email newsletters. I have been asking for this feature for years, and it is because I loose more potential Constant Contact clients to MailChimp because of this feature not being available. Today, Brooke encouraged me to email through this form to ask about whether you will ever get the RSS-To-Email feature.

Hello Constant Contact. I'd like to request a feature. It sure would be great to be able to connect a blog's RSS feed to constant contact so that newly written posts can be turned into a newsletter and emailed out. There is a service out there called FeedBlitz that does this but frankly it's not easy to use or design. As great as RSS feeds are, most people still don't use the technology - but EVERYONE uses email.

I'm sure you guys could implement much better. And if anyone out there has a better way to do this...chime in!

I'm yet another customer needing this feature. I like ConstantContact, and would think this would be a big boost for your business.

Constant Contact, do you have a response? Is this feature forthcoming? I'm continuing to look at other providers.

We would like to build a campaign each week where the content of the email comes from the RSS Feed of our blogs.  There was some discussion of this last year indicating it was under consideration.  Is this likely to be developed?

Ideally this would have the following features:
1.  Enable us to select one or more RSS Feeds to include in the campaign.
2.  If there are multiple RSS Feeds, allow either combining them or keeping them separate in the campaign.
3.  Select what to include in campaign either by inclusive dates or number of posts from the RSS Feed.
4.  Allow us to specify how much of each post to include.
5.  Allow us to specify which elements in the RSS Feed such as author, date, time, etc. to include.

This is becoming an important feature for us as we look to re-purpose blog content in a semi-automated way.  We've seen some elements of this feature in other email marketing services and hope that CC will add it soon.

Thank you.

People keep requesting this but the CC people remain silent.

Lending our support for this important feature as well ... many other email marketing systems provide this. Why not ConstantContact? Enough of an issue to warrant us looking at alternative providers. I understand that (at a minimum) AWeber and MailChimp both have this functionality.

Any new comments on this topic? Looking to use this function as well and would love to find an easy solution to it. Anyone get any responses from CC on why it's not offered or if it's in the works?

Any new comments on this? I'd love to have access to this feature.

This should be required by CC. This would streamline much of the work.

We send a weekly newsletter and without this feature it's too much work, we will have to find another solution if CC can't get it together.

One of ConstantContact competitors has a feature called RSS-to-Email.

What it does is once a week it reads an RSS feeds, and sends the content by email to subscribers.

Basically we have a blog and we want to send an automatic weekly newsletter containing the latest news.

Is that something that is doable on Constant Contact?

It is possible that you can generate content of your email from an outside source and then push it to us via our API's. You would do this by using our Campaign API, which will allow you to create a custom HTML or XHTML email on our system. You would need to create the HTML, and also set up a mechanism that also includes the content that you are generating, and put it in the required XML format and POST it to the Campaign URI.

If you have any questions about this specifically, or other things that you can do with our API's, please let me know.

Amen. We've built our email campaigns around Constant Contact and would hate to go to MailChimp just for this feature...

We do have this feature now. It's the Blog Insert feature.

When you are editing a block in your email, choose the "Blog Content" option under Insert on the left

insert blog.png

Then you will be prompted to insert your "Feed/RSS URL" in the box.  Then hit "Retrieve" to pull in your content.

Then you can choose to insert a snippet or your full post.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick reply!

That's a step in the right direction, and I can see how that would be useful, but I'm talking about the capability to have RSS feeds automatically sent to my chosen list daily/weekly/whatever. Or after I publish X number of posts.

Do you offer this, too?

on ‎11-23-2011 02:01 PM

Hi Kevin,

We don't offer an automatic sending. But that is a great idea and I will pass it on. Right now, we only offer it manually.

on ‎11-23-2011 02:03 PM

Hi again Kevin,

I just checked our internal site for product features and suggestions and found that this is actualy under Review by our Email Marketing team here.  I hope to have more information on this in the future. I will add you to the list of users that want this feature!

Thank you for your quick replies and help, Marrisa. I look forward to continuing to partner with Constant Contact.
