Rosalind, here's another problem that I have been wrestling with. People are being mysteriously "unsubscribed" to include the primary account holder. I suspect that he and some of his subscribers are forwarding their copy of their broadcast email without using the "forward to a friend" link. All the links are active to include the unsubscribe link. The first "forwardee" again forwards it on to others who misinterpret what they have and hit the "unsubscribe" button. That unsubscribes the original subscriber.
Does that make sense?
