You know that it is possible to upload a file of contacts that want to join your mailing list. But what if people have previously opted out in another system? In order to be in compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act, you will want to upload those contacts into your Constant Contact account.
If your contacts are in a file, this is the best way to upload them.
First you want to turn on the option to upload your Unsubscribes.
Go to My Settings > Contact Settings > Enable advanced email permissions
Once that is complete, go back to Contacts
Click the Add Contacts dropdown, then choose Add unsubscribed from file
to browse your computer to find the file you wish to upload. Then click the Continue button. (Accepted files: .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .txt)
Make sure everything looks good from the Preview screen and click Continue.
This last screen is where you can Tag the contacts if you wish to tag them and then click Import.
Note: The option to “Upload unsubscribed from file” will remain in the “Add Contacts” drop down menu moving forward so you can keep your list up-to-date!
