Using an Inline Form to Grow Your List

CTCT Employee

Updated March 2019

Are you making it easy for those who visit your website to join your mailing list? By using a Constant Contact inline form included in your account, new contacts can sign up to receive your emails without needing to leave your page! Here are a few tips to make your inline form work best for you:

1. Ask for the right information

Customize your form and include contact fields that are relevant to what you are sending out. Asking for a first name lets you include a personalized greeting in your emails. Do you send out automated birthday emails? Make sure to include that field as well! Sign up forms with lots of required fields can deter new contacts from signing up so we recommend keeping it to the essentials.

2. Let your contacts choose what to receive from you

Your contacts will only want to receive what interests them. If you send out different types of emails to a general list, they may start to unsubscribe in large numbers. Yikes! By letting contacts select what lists they want to join, you don't have to play a guessing game. Make sure to include a section on your inline form displaying your mailing lists.

Ready to grow your list? All that's left is to activate and install the inline form on your website.

Have you used one of our inline forms on your website?

 Hi @JoanneT46,

Thank you for reaching out to us through the Community. For Squarespace websites, it will be helpful for you to use our Inline sign-up forms and use both the universal and inline code to embed it within your website. For more information on creating the Inline form, please click here. The following information is regarding the steps on how to embed the Inline form to your Squarespace website.

If you've created your website using Squarespace, use the steps below to install the Universal and Inline code.

Universal Code:

  1. In Constant Contact, click Universal Code and copy the code.
  2. In Squarespace, click Settings > Advanced > Code Injection.
  3. Paste the code into the footer section.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Click to Publish.

Inline Placement Code:

  1. In Constant Contact, click the more icon on your sign-up form and select Inline Code.
  2. Copy the code.
  3. In Squarespace, select the desired page where you want your sign-up form to display and click Edit.
  4. Click the Add Block button in the top right corner of the content editor.
  5. Scroll through the options and select Code.
  6. Paste the Inline Placement Code into the block and click Apply.
  7. Drag the code block to the desired location on the page.
  8. Click Save.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need assistance with anything else.

Hi @LuCindaHohmann

You're correct! We have updated how sign-up forms can be embedded in a website since this original post was created. These changes have been reflected in the update added to this post in December 2017. Please let us know if you have any further questions with your sign-up form. We'll be happy to take a look for you.
