Getting More Effective Email Newsletters

Many people think that it is sufficient in an email marketing newsletter to just put in some articles you think are of value to your subscribers. While this is certainly important, it is also just as if not more important to gather information about what groups of subscribers are interested in your organization and in what specific product, service or topic they are interested. 

A properly designed email will accomplish this as well as inform/educate subscribers.  In brief you may want to think of an email as another form of a survey and instead of using questions, tracking clicks on articles is used to get vital information. Does it make sense to hunt tigers in Antarctica? Email Marketing can help you find where the tigers are located and keep you out of the cold regions
 
If you know who your customers are and their interests, you may then use that in other aspects of your marketing program. Suppose you want to do a direct mail to potential customers. If you have determined from your email marketing campaigns that, let's say, small business owners have a high open rate of your email campaigns and they have clicked on articles dealing with payroll, then you should purchase a direct mail list of small business owners and make the subject of your mailing payroll. This can similarly be applied to your other marketing instruments.
