How frequently should you send out an email to your email list

Here is a quesiton from a nonprofit in one of Constant Contact's live nonprofit webinars...

How frequently should you send out an email to your email list about "whats happening" in your organization? The main goal of email marketing is to build relationships and stay at the top of mind of your readers.  At the very least, you should send 4 times a year. However, twice a month is the most preferred. When deciding what is best for you, consider two things:  your content and your readers’ expectations. Your content should drive your frequency. It’s better to send a high quality monthly email than a sub-par weekly email. Also, how often are your readers expecting to hear from you? Let them know when they sign up so there aren’t any surprises later on.
