I would like to know of any success stories in attracting insurance agencies to the use of email marketing,

I have just started with a Insurance Company as Marketing Coordinator to send emails through constant Contact. As soon as I learn more, I will let you know. Our company has used constant Contact for some time, however I am new to it. I hope to learn more through this community.
I have clients in the financial planning industry that use email. There are many regulations in force that you have to be cognizant of what you can say or do.
For the last six years, email addresses were collected and segmented by customers, prospects and products. Email was used as a customer service tool.
Recently with one client, we started sending an email newsletter with an approved story from their regulatory agency who approved the quarterly mailed newsletter. We are able to make the newsletter somewhat relevant to the readers needs.

I have been using CC for several years and I love it. I own an insurance agency in VA. We do mostly group benefits but also do a lot of indiviudal health, life, disability and LTCi. I got tired of people saying, "You do X (life insurance)? I thought you only did Y (health insurance)?" Drove me crazy. So I started the newsletter. First email got me three new pieces of business.
Some things I have learned:
I write my own newsletter. I do not buy canned newsletter content. It makes the newsletter mine, it makes it different and people NOTICE.
It makes the phon ring. Maybe it is a service issue, but people are calling. Maybe only 2-3 calls, but they call.
People think you send it out more often than you do, so remember that.
People notice when you do not send it out for a while.
Keep it light. Keep it simple.
I usually put off doing it, but enjoy the actual process when I do it. And the main thing - the phone rings and clients comment on it - positively.
