Using Facebook for your Business

By now we all know that Facebook is a tool that most, if not all, businesses should be using.  In the post "Facebook for Small Business" on Social Media Today, Darnelle O'Brien gives some advice on using this social media site to your advantage.

Discussed in the article are:

  1. Engagement - Facebook is not a place to just put your message out there.  You need to be interacting with your audience too!  If you engage with your customers and encourage participation on your page it can help to increase visibility of your page and your business.
  2. Getting Likes - Facebook has started to crack down on promotions with asking you to Like a page.  This is a good thing though!  It will mean a more organic number of likes.  This way the people who are liking your page are doing it because they like you, not just to get a coupon or enter a giveaway.
  3. 80:20 rule - You have probably seen this around.  80% of your content should be valuable to your audience, like resources, instructions or ideas.  20% should be directed towards your sales or your own goals.  So what can you do for the 80%?  What about highlight your customers, show how your store is decorating for the holidays, share something relevant to your business.
  4. Giving something away - This does not have to be giving away a gift, it could be a coupon or discount.  This tactic is a way to get people into your store or shopping with you.
