As a marketing guy, I've always wondered why companies (in this case Constant Contact) reward new customers with a 50% discount on a three month subscription to Email marketing (see the home page offer), but you don't offer the same rewards to those of us who have been faithful customers for years on end?
It's like showing your customer card at the grocery store so they can charge you full price on sale items. Or pulling out a particular credit card so you're sure to be charged an extra 3 percent on all purchases...
I certainly understand why you offer new prospects an incentive to join -- but not at the expense of the folks that got you where you are. It's a bit insulting.
Thank you for your business and your concerns. We care about all of our customers and I’m sorry if this promotion has caused any bad feelings. You’ve been a loyal customer of ours for quite a while and we truly appreciate it. I went ahead and brought this post to the attention of our marketing team to see what we can do. Someone should be contacting you shortly, if they have not already.
I hope this helps,
Actually that is a great question that all businesses should consider.
How do you offer specials for new customers without creating hurt feelings for the current loyal customer base that has contributed to the businesses success?
In an email marketing campaign is it considered unfair to your subscribers that only some of them got the special deal/offer and the others did not?
Unless all existing and new customers entered the data base system with the same offer then there should not be a problem.
A great topic for discussion !! Not just the CTCT issue but in general.
I just bought my daughter a car with 0% financing, this offer wasn't around last year. Should all the people that bought cars last year be entitled to the same offer?? Come on, of course not.
But not to make light of the original post what's the best way to offer breaks to new customers at the extent of alienating your existing base?
Jarred can you have the marketing folks call me too I want the same deal that chuck24 is going to get. ( Just kidding )
