Out of 300+ sent, we had 21 opens ... Another organization I work with, claims 50%+ opens ... What do we do wrong here? Thank you for your suggestions in advance.
Thank you for posting this is a great topic and something I am sure most of users have questions on. There is a great website http://rackandwrite.com that assists in making creative subject lines.
As for this specific Subject line "An Exciting, Multi-Cultural, Interactive and Educational Event," there are a few things you can change. First, you should not have a subject line over 50 characters. A subject line over 50 characters is more likely to get marked as spam, and most readers only read the first 10 characters of a subject line. Secondly adding a date to the subject line has shown to improve subject lines by up to 20%. Lastly we want to look at the time you are sending your email here is a FAQ on best times to send.
Hopefully this all helps!
Basically email subject lines should appeal to someone's ---
1) vanity - want to NOT be embarassed
2) social status - want to fit in
3) fear - want to NOT miss out or get hurt by something
4) love - good for people who *really* care about your niche
5) adventure/curiosity - basically a "try this"
6) intelligence (not logic) - asking them a question they can answer
Here are some tested email subject lines I found that reportedly get opened...
For yours though, I probably would have done something like ---
"Finally! An event your kids will LOVE"
