My first time.. be gentle ;-)

This is my first attempt.

I sent this out to my 145 customers. Please offer some constructive criticism.

Re: My first time.. be gentle ;-)

Chris,

It looks very nice. My only observation and I know its a big one is the use of the colors of background and text. The contrast is fairly low and may present a difficultly in reading the copy.  I have not used that background image, but consider that not all email clients support background images, most notably Microsoft Outlook. When read with Outlook you will end up with teal text on whatever you have for a fallback color in that block.

It's very nice, but I suggest you test that combination in as many email clients as possible and most definitely Outlook.

Re: My first time.. be gentle ;-)

Thank you for the suggestion. I used this template from CTCT. They had the colors/images already set. I figured it would be safe to just use what they suggested.

I realize that, that's why I took the time to mention it.

My explaination of background images is still true.

"Pet Containment Consultant".... that's a new one on me!  Ha-ha!

I would have went with "Dog Keeper in Fencer"  :smileyvery-happy:

Seriously... I think it actually looks pretty good. It's a little thin for my taste but a lot of the templates are because that was the only standard for years. Otherwise, it's interesting, mentions the BBB (trust), makes the offer, has your contact info., has a personal touch, offers a coupon, etc. The only thing I noticed is that there was only one small link in the text body that took them to your site. I think that should be either larger, longer or somehow more prominent so they don't miss it.

I wish my Lapsa Apsa was that groomed. Mine is a matted mess (even after I brush him!) :smileyhappy:

Re: My first time.. be gentle ;-)

Hi Mike,
I differentiate myself from the guys who put a dog fence in and drive away. We charge higher prices for the outstanding service our clients get. So, no - not a "fence guy". :-)

I like your idea about more links.

Thank you for your suggestions. They're much appreciated.

Are some templates not appropriate or are outdated?

Re: My first time.. be gentle ;-)

I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can speak to that . I know that when I see something that thin, I immediately think of an older style, but then I also have a wide computer screen so everything's going to look a bit thinner. Either way, it's a good newsletter visually and textually.

Re: My first time.. be gentle ;-)

We do have some older templates, but I don't know them off hand.  But most have been updated.  I know that we will probably be discontinuing some by the end of the year. When that happens, I'll let everyone know.
