API Key & Token Not working

API Key & Token Not working

I am trying to set up an integration with a donation form WordPress plugin so that people who donate to our organization can be added to our Constant Contact lists.

 

I signed up for a developer account, got an API key, and got my token, but when I enter that information into the API tester, I get:

 

Invalid or missing authorization client ID.

 

What can I do to get the authorization client ID?

You mention that you are trying to set up an integration with a WordPress plugin. Which plugin are you trying to set up? And so that I can better assist you, can you tell me what you are trying to do with our API Tester when you get that error?

I'm using a paid plugin called "Total Donations". It requires an API key and Token.

 

When I'm at the API Tester on this page: https://constantcontact.mashery.com/io-docs, and I choose the API key and enter the token I get when I click the Get Access Token button and then hit enter, that's when I get the message.

 

Also, when I enter the API key and Token in the plugin, the dropdown menu of my email lists doesn't populate.

Hello,

After selecting your API Key from the drop-down and following the steps to Get Access Token, all you need to do is copy and paste the information into your plugin. There is no need for you to enter that information into the API Tester.

The Total Donations plugin is a 3rd party plugin built by Total Donations directly and not built or supported by Constant Contact, so I'm limited in the scope in which I can help with any problems with it. Have you reached out to Total Donations for support for this? If so, what was their response?

I was able to locate the following information on a cached version of their website which may be useful for you:

 

  • Copy the API Key and Token to Total Donations Form Options > Mailing list integration > Constant Contact Integration > API Key and Token. Save both these inputs.
  • Click Retrieve Available Lists to pull all Lists on your Constant Contact account. (*you need to make lists on your Constant Contact beforehand).
  • Now it is time to integrate Constant Contact with Total Donations. From all lists you can setup to :
    a. Don’t Add : Do not add any donors to this list

    b. Add every donor automatically to this campaign : All donors on Total Donations will be added even if they don’t click the Check Box.

    c. Add donor if they have checked the check box : Only donor that has checked the check box will be added to this list

    * the check box is field Add to mailing list? on your Form Options > Form Settings. This field is default field, you must use this field to integrate Mailing List to Total Donations and not a custom list that you create.
  • Save with click Update List.

Hi,

 

When I enter the API Key and Token, and then click retrieve available lists, it doesn't generate any lists, which is why I tried the API Tester, which gave me the error message.

 

Total Donations is telling me that the API Key and Token don't match and that it's a Constant Contact issue. They say that if the Key and Token match, the lists will populate.

 

I tried deleting the original API key and generating a new one with a new Token, but those do not work either.

 

Is there any way to test the API Key and Token to make sure they grant access to the API?
