Adding contact to different list in different API calls

The problem is that, if I add an email address using API then I can't add same email address to another list since it exist in another list.
I can do this using web portal but can't do it using an API. Is there a restriction on the API on this feature.
(I want to add email address to another list in different API calls not the same)
Please suggest.

Thank you for reaching out to Constant Contact's API Support.

 

Similar to your other question. Once the contact already exists you will need to now use a PUT to update the contact and add the new contact listID to the contact. Please keep in mind when doing this update that you must include all listIDs that the contact is suppose to be a member of. If you do not include a listID that will remove the contact from the missing listID.
