Help! I just need my "Constant Contact ID"

I'm adding an extension to my Joomla website which enables people to subscribe my CC newsletter. In order to configure it I need to enter my "Constant Contact ID" - what is it/where do I find it??

Thanks!

Hello,

Here is the link to the documentation for the Joomla module.  At the bottom of the module is the best way to find your Constant Contact ID.

I will also paste the steps below:

  1. Login to your Constant Contact account.

  2. Click the "Contact" tab.

  3. Click "Site Visitor Signup"

  4. Click "Start Wizard" in step 1 to generate HTML code.

  5. Just keep clicking next until you get to the HTML code page.

  6. When you get to the page with the actual HTML code on it, copy and paste the HTML into your favorite text editor.

  7. In the HTML code find the line where name="m", see below. The value stored in this line is the account id. So, in our example below, 1234567891234 is the account id.

    <input type="hidden" name="m" value="1234567891234">

  8. Enter the retrieved account id number in your Constant Contact Signup Module parameters and the form will work.

If you have any questions regarding this please let me know.

The interface has changed again for the Contacts page.  Anyone know where to find the ID now?

Hi,

You should be able to find that value by going to:

The Contacts Tab

Grow My List OR Sign-up Tools (near the top, in the subnavigation bar)

Get a Link to My website signup form

Click "Next" at the top right twice

Find the value="..." in the html code.  The value is your ID.

Let me know if you have any issues.  The second step above has an OR because we are slowly rolling out a new Contacts layout to our customers.

Has it changed again? I can't find the "value="...

Hi Leslie,

Yes, our contacts interface did change again.  The integrations that ask for ID use an older API (5+ years old).  There is no way to see your ID in your account anymore.  Unfortunately, this makes the integration you're using deprecated.  There are newer, free integrations available for Joomla and Wordpress that don't require your ID.  We'd recommend using a newer integration.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

How can we know which plugin will use the proper API implementation?

Hi Eric,

If the application developer doesn't make it clear, it may be hard to know.  An application asking for your Contact ID or List ID should be modified/updated by the developer or made not available.  I apologize that we're not able to find old applications and ask their developers to do so more proactively.

Taking a look at when an app was developed, and trying to use newer applications (a year or less old) would be a good idea when finding apps & integrations to use.

Guys this is INSANE. Why in the freaking heck can you not put the Constant Contact account number in . . oh . . THE ACCOUNT SECTION?

Oh my gosh! You've got to jump through hoops to get your account number?! Unreal!

Sorry for the frustration you're having here.  We have actually updated our Join My Mailing List feature to no longer use the flow that plugin is using.  Existing website signup forms will continue to work but new forms should not be configured with this older technology.  The account ID is no longer part of this new version and will not be used in any newly created Join My Mailing List forms.  As such, there is actually no longer any way to get the account ID and the outdated instructions this plugin provides are no longer useful.

Our appologies for the frustration with this plugin.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it is to find a plugin, install it and then find out that configuring it is incredibly hard.  Unfortunately, the developer of this Wordpress widget did not work with us in developing and releasing this plugin and the developer is also no longer maintaining it.  We also do not have any ability to remove this plugin as we do not own it.

We will continue to reach out to Wordpress.org to see if we can get this plugin removed.  In the short term, we have no plans to provide this account ID externally.  This ID has only ever been intended to be used internally by Constant Contact systems.

Why can't we use the account ID anymore? old integrations using it still appear to work normally.

Hello,

As Dave had mentioned in his post, we are aiming to use methods of integrating with Constant Contact accounts that do not involve your account ID. This ID is intended to be internal and we aim to maintain that as much as possible. Our updated APIs and systems are able to provide a greater level of functionality while keeping this information internal to Constant Contact.

Okay, I ended up using the Module for Joomla called  Nice Constant Contact and their instructions were a bit clearer on where to locate the ID.

1. Login to your Constant Contact account.

2. Go to Contacts List.

3. Click on the Tab 'ADD CONTACTS' and then click on the drop down for GET NEW CONTACTS

4. Click the Create a link symbol to the right under ACTIONS.

5. Click SHARE URL to FORM.

6. Now you can view the "HTML Code".

7. In the HTML code find the line where name="m", see below. The value stored in this line is the account id. So, in our example below, YOUR_CODE_IS_HERE is the account id.

<http://visitor.r20.constantcontact.com/d.jsp?llr=499ew7hab&p=oi&m=YOUR_CODE_IS_HERE&sit=libutklgb&f=c52c12cb-c552-405e-a171-8ed159b61a32>

8. Enter the retrieved account id number in your Constant Contact Signup Module parameters and the form will work.

Hope this helps.

Has this been updated? The GET CONTACTS doesn't exist anymore

Hi @LaurenG739,

Yes this has been updated as the original post is from 2014 there have been many updates since then. There should no longer be any integrations asking you for an account ID. Can you specify which integration you are trying to setup and we can see if there are instructions for them.
