I have a client who will export a new list from Act! 2010 every time they send a mailing. This causes a problem with unsubscribes, because they affect older lists that will no longer be used and do not want to import this data back into Act! Also, their clients may opt out of one list, but stay on another.
Is there a plugin or code solution that will let them do this through Constant Contact? They are looking for something like SwiftPage offers, only they don't want it to be a universal opt-in/opt-out solution.
Constant Contact maintains a Do Not Mail list for each account. This list is permanent and prevents any accidental uploads of opted out contacts from being placed into an active list. So, for example, if email@example.com opts out of their email list and they try to upload a new list that includes firstname.lastname@example.org, that address will be blocked on the upload since they are on the Do Not Mail list.
It sounds like this default functionality will be what your customers needs to solve their problem. If I'm not understanding the problem correctly, please feel free to provide a little more information on your customer's flow and I'll be glad to provide any solutions I can think of.
I need a temporary suppression list (not a permanent "Do Not Mail") function. I've been doing this for years with Aweber and can't believe you don't have this ability.
For example, let's say I do a mailing to my list and offer a 10% discount and get a certain number of buyers.
A few days later, I want to do another mailing and offer a better deal (like a 20% discount). To avoid problems, I don't want to send emails to the people who already purchased the 10% off deal.
I don't want to permanently put the customers on the Do Not Mail list, I just want to suppress certain email addresses on individual mailings.
Is there any easy way to do this?
Removing a contact (or just removing the contacts from the list you're attaching the campaign to) is a temporary way to NOT email certain email addresses. You could remove the poeple who purchased the deal in bulk or individually, send the email, and then add the same email addresses back.

Manually editing a list to remove contacts is not practical, especially if you have hundreds of email address you want to suppress. That's what I'm trying to avoid.
The whole purpose of using a tool like yours is to make things easier, not create more work.
Linked here is a way to remove contacts in bulk from a list. You could copy your list, remove a file of contacts from it, and send your email to it to accomplish what you want. Later, just delete that list.
If you wanted something where when you send the email, to provide a file or list of email addresses to omit from the mailing, we do have a feature request open for that, and I have added you to the list of users requesting that feature. So to be clear, Constant Contact does not have list suppression capabilities. I can't add a supression list to an email I'm sending out. I have to physically manipulate my email lists to achieve this basic suppression function.
Is this accurate?
At this time we do not offer any functionality for specifying who to not send an email to, only the positive case of who to send a campaign to. I will definitely pass this feedback on to our Contact Management development team. At this time there is not any new development on this feature request. As Dave had mentioned previously, this is not an API specific feature, as it would need to be implemented in the email campaign scheduling system.
