I am NOT asking here for HTML-edit ability. I know that's either far-future or won't-do. But here are a couple things that any moderately-heavy user of Word might expect:
(1) Non-breaking spaces (and hyphens): Can't insert them at all.
EXPECT: To enter with shift-control-[space] (or dash). Perhaps optionally also (but this is a stretch) inserted via the generalized "insert" affordance that's so badly needed.
(2) Fine control of the multi-column boundaries: Can only select between a few coarsely-grained locations.
EXPECT: To be able to drag the column divider pixel-by-pixel, if I hold down ctrl or alt while I drag.
Again, the above are features in Word, and other editors, that a user might reasonably try. Without them, I cannot avoid some stone-ugly line breaks. Including ones (e.g. between "Aug" and "3") that are semantically weird or confusing.
