Backgrounds taking over email replies & forwards

Backgrounds taking over email replies & forwards

Is there a way to apply a background color or image that doesn't take over an email when somene replies or forwards it?

It appears that the background style is applied to the email body, rather than a content div, so when someone replies, the entire email body suddenly has the same background.

Is there a way to avoid this without creating a template from scratch?

Hi @AliseCSWD

I'm sorry for the issue with forwarding your emails. We do have an issue we are tracking on this. If you could send us an email at social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com and let us know the exact issue you are encountering and any other details you can provide, such as which email client did you forward it from (Outlook, Gmail, etc...) and which was receiving it, a screenshot or copy of the email if possible and we are happy to take a look at it. Please also let us know if there is anything else we can do for you by reaching out here or by using our other means of support. Those can be found here

Has this issue been solved? I am also having problems with it. See attached reply with full background pattern...image005.jpg

No one at Constant Contact can tell me why it happens. It doesn't just happen with backgrounds, either - sometimes the border color will be applied as a background. Forwards & replies always get the bg automatically. However, I recently got a newsletter from another organization (sent through Constant Contact) that had a background applied, but it didn't take over when I forwarded it. So it's theoretically possible; hopefully someone at CC can weigh in and clear this up!

FYI you can manually remove the background when replying to an email with a background applied (but that doesn't help with emails from other people).

You're not alone on your email marketing journey. Connect with a Marketing Advisor to see how they can help you develop the right strategy for your business and get the most out of your Constant Contact experience.

We are also having this issue.  I don't know about forwards, but definitely on replies.

We are a membership association, so replies come from corporate accounts, not gmail or yahoo addresses.

I get a surprising number of complaints about it, too.

@FreshPFC

Thank you for bringing this to our attention on the Community.

I apologize that you are experiencing this issue as well. Unfortunately we are unable to control the display of replies and forwarded emails. We will continue to investigate this issue in hopes that we can find a resolution with the various web mail clients. In the meantime, please let us know if you have additional questions.

Thanks!

I have this issue too, and I really feel as if there has to be a solution. I recently came from another email marketing platform and they were able to change it. I did, however, speak with three people from Constant Contact who all said it was not possible. Yet I too have received an email from an organization using Constant Contact where the background does not take over the replies/forwards of the email. There has to be a way to add a white divider or white block across the entire top of the email before starting the actual design/template with the colored background.

Hi @MainStreetCommunityFoundation

Thanks for reaching out in the Community! While this is not something that we can control, I am happy to track your feedback on this issue. Please reach out if you have any further questions on this.

Thanks!

Has there been any resolution to this problem yet - it is causing a number of complaints from our clients and makes us look totally unprofessional.

We realize you cannot control reply and forward emails, but can you include some type of formatting that the background are only to be applied to the original sent email?  Maybe saved as a single graphic on reply and sent, so that responses are typed above the graphic (background) and recipients are able to then reply effectively?

This is a huge limitation for companies that have darker branding.

Please let me know if this has been resolved, or if there is a fix available.  Even a template with layers (background on specific table cells, etc.) would be more helpful...

This issue has been giving users problems for years. Constant Contact, please let us know how and when this will be resolved.

Hello @LMEC ,

At the moment our engineers and other email service providers like us are still working with Microsoft to figure out where exactly this sporadic issue is coming from. Since this is an issue on Outlook's end, we and other ESP's are relying on Microsoft to work with us to figure out a resolution. At this time we don't have an ETA on a true fix. In the meantime, the best workarounds are going to be either making the outer background and inner backgrounds the same color, or providing a View As Webpage link
