I uploaded 30 or 40 contacts, which seems to have been the max allowed. Instead of saving them it took me to a page that made no sense. I got lost and now they are all gone. Not a good start.

Are you able to provide a screencap of the "page that made no sense?" Are you referring to the page where you select the lists to add the contacts to? Were you adding contacts via type/paste multiple? Are you able to import the contacts via a file, such as a CSV or XLS file?
