It appears this is a feature request our engineers are aware of. They are currently in the middle of a major revamp of the event tool, so I've gone ahead and attached your case to this particular request. If and when the engineers have an update, they'll make sure to notify you. In the meantime, the only "workaround" would be to wait until at least the same day, one year before, to preemptively set up the event.
