We've noticed that everything looks good when we are about to send out an email but when received it squishes a bunch of text together. What is going on and what can we do to fix it? It just looks unprofessional now.
Hello @KathleenF28 ,
When I test sent some of your most recent emails, they came through exactly as previewed. Is this issue occurring with a specific section of the text? Is the issue occurring in multiple email clients / apps, or just one in particular? Was the text used copy-pasted directly from a different source, or was it pasted without formatting / typed out manually?
This just happened to me as well. Yes, I copy/pasted from a MS Word document -- that shouldn't matter, should it? I formatted in the Constant Contact template. When I previewed the document, it looked perfect. I sent an email test to myself and three other people, all perfect. Then this morning, when the newsletter went out to 300+ people, all the line spacing disappeared so that the paragraphs are mushed together. The font size changed for one paragraph. And letters were cut off against the text wrap around an image.
What happened? Why did it happen? This was an important mailing for us and now it looks terrible.
Michele
Hello @DufferinC7,
Yes, copying and pasting could have caused this issue. It can bring over unwanted code that is causing your formatting to shift. You will want to delete all the blocks and re-insert them and copy and paste from Notepad instead, or type your text manually. Thanks!
Hi Zoe_H,
Thanks for your response. I will use Notepad in the future. One question though, why would it look fine during the preview test email but not when it is actually sent to the full list?
Some email programs will ignore the formatting applied on our side if there was already formatting hidden in the text's code from its source. Even though our preview will show it properly, and even most email programs will as well, others will use the previous formatting. This is a chronic issue among email service providers, and is something our devs are still looking into additional ways to mitigate. Unfortunately the best workaround is still to just make sure text is copied into the block without formatting (generally done by CTRL SHIFT V on PC or CMD SHIFT V on Mac).
