How to: Export from Outlook

UPDATED: June 2018


Did you know you can export your contacts directly from  Microsoft Outlook to import them into Constant Contact?  Please note, this is a manual process but we have a plug-in available that will allow you to export and import automatically if you prefer.


Note: If you are using Outlook Express Outlook Express or a distribution list the directions are a little different.


Outlook 2003 or 2007

  1. From the Outlook main menu, select File > Import and Export. The Outlook "Import and Export" Wizard displays.
  2. Select Export to a file and then click Next.
  3. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) and then click Next.
  4. Type a file name under "Save exported file as" and click Browse to locate the directory where you want to place the exported file. Then click “OK”.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Map Custom Fields
  7. Use the columns to map values from your Microsoft Office information to the file you are exporting.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Finish. The new .CSV file should now be in the location that you specified.

Outlook 2010

  1. From the Outlook ribbon, select File.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Under the Export section, click Export.
  5. In the "Import and Export Wizard", click Export to a file.
  6. Click Next. 
  7. Under "Create a file of type", choose Comma Separated Values (Windows).
  8. Click Next.
  9. Under "Select a folder to export from", choose the contact folder you want to export. 
  10. Click Next. 
  11. Under "Save exported file as", click Browse and select where you want to save the file.
  12. In the "File Name box", type a name for the file.
  13. Click OK.
  14. In the "Export to a File" dialogue box, click Next.
  15. Click Finish.


Outlook 2011

  1. From the Outlook main menu, click File > Export.
  2. Choose Contacts to a list
  3. Choose a name and location and save your file
  4. Open the saved file in Excel and select File > Save As.
  5. Choose Comma Separated Values (.csv) as your format before clicking the save button.


Outlook 2013 & Outlook 2016

  1. On your Outlook menu, click File
  2. Click Open & Export > Import / Export.
  3. Select "Export to a file".
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select "Comma Separated Values".
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select Contacts option under Personal Folders.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Browse and choose both a name and location for the exported file.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Finish.

Outlook 365

  1. Once logged in, click the Apps icon in the upper left-hand corner.
  2. Click People.
  3. Click Manage > Export Contacts.
  4. Select all contacts or a contact folder.
  5. Click Export.


Now you can Import into Constant Contact using these directions.
