How to delete contacts that have never opened one of my emails

Hi ! recently i moved from  to Constantcontact  i had 5000 emails , now i have seen only an average of 2000 are actually reading what i send , the question is   :  how can i delete all the emails ( or unsubscribe )  that have never opened  one of my emails ???

We do not have a way to see a list of contacts who have never opened your email.  What you can do though is to create a list of all of your contacts, then go through the Opens reports for your emails, select the contacts and then click "Add to Email Lists" and uncheck the list you created of all of your contacts.  Once you do this step for each of your campaigns that you have sent, you will be left with the contacts that have not opened one of your emails.  You can then manage the list how you would like, to delete the contacts or to export them and upload them to the unsubscribes.  

 

Please keep in mind that there are some opens that we cannot track, here's more information on that, so if you choose to delete these contacts you might be deleting ones who are opening the email. Another option might be to try to re-engage these contacts by sending them a confirm campaign or a special/deal.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to find you the contacts who do not open up the email/newsletter that we send out. Some emails just may be old? Or the contact no longer has that email?

It is a great idea to get a list of contacts who haven't opened your email.  You can send targeted emails to them and try to re-engage with them.  For some detailed steps on how to create this list of contacts, look at this post "How to create an un-open report for a time frame" by @Anna_D.

Hello @SusanT7. At this time, we do not have a feature that will find what contacts have never opened your emails. I will send some feedback on your behalf to our engineers about this request. I am also including a link to a Community post that one of our Support team members created that explains how you can create this list yourself. I think that creating this list would be very useful for managing your contacts.

Caitlin, I have the same question, and I read the post you linked to, which starts with a list of all contacts and subtracts those who did open for a period of time, leaving a list of who did not open. I have started from the opposite direction and am hoping you can tell me what to do next. I have already created a list of those who DID open during 2016. I would like to delete everyone ELSE, but still have a record of them, like I have a record of unsubscribers. Help?

Hi @HazelT3. What I can suggest for you is to do an advanced search for everyone who isn't on your open list.

After you search for those contacts, you can export those contacts so you have a record of them. From there, if you wish, you can then delete the contacts

Hmmm.... I'm hesitating to delete anyone because the numbers don't add up. Perhaps you can tell me what I'm overlooking? 

 

Active = 1407, Unsubscribed = 433, View All Contacts = 1969.  Yet, adding Active + Unsubscribed = Manual Total 1840.

(Manual Total does not match All Contacts.)

 

Manwhile, new list "ACTIVE during 2016" = 960, and Advanced Search for [List + is not + "ACTIVE in 2016"] = 1001.

Manual Total 1840 - 1001 = 839.  And All Contacts 1969 - 1001 = 968.

Hi @HazelT3. View All Contacts includes active, unsubscribed and any contacts who don't have email addresses. So according to those numbers, there are 129 contacts in your account who don't have email addresses. You could delete these contacts because they don't even have email addresses in the account and therefore, weren't receiving your emails.

Wow, look at that! (I searched for everyone with no email address.) You're right, and I had no idea. Between subscribers who have died, and problemmatic email address here and there, they add up over the years, don't they? Thanks, Caitlin!

How do I search for someone who isn't on a LIST? Like the open list? I can't seem to follow that step in advanced search...

Hello @MFSeminars. You can used the Advanced search to find contacts who aren't on a list. You will search for "List" and "is blank" then click Search.This will bring up all contacts who are not on any of your lists.

I've done some searching for info on this but mostly I find old posts that had no input from Constant Contact representatives.

 

I have around 8000 contacts in my list. Many of those are ".edu" addresses since one of our stores is in a college town, and many of those are no longer valid. Add that to the contacts who just simply don't open our emails anymore and I have a lot of addresses to get rid of.

I've tried compiling the info into excel spreadsheets, and have successfully got the addresses in there for folks who haven't opened our emails for the last seven we sent.

However, now I need to figure out all the addresses that occur in each of those seven lists, giving me a list of all those who haven't opened ANY of the last seven.

I need help.

Hello @WesleyB64737. It's great that you want to keep your contact list up-to-date! At this time, we do not have a reporting feature that can find contacts that have not opened an email for a period of time. We do have a blog post that may help you create this report though. You can find it here. I am going to put in some feedback for you in regards to this feature request and I also encourage you to post your thoughts on our Feedback board as well.

I send out several news letters, and I noticed there is no way to generate a report of contacts who have never opened an email. Is there any way to get a report on contacts who either never opened and email, or have not opened an email in the last 30 to 60 days>

Hello @DailyBibleOnline. Great question! At this time, we do not have a feature that will create a report of contacts who have not opened an email over a period of time. However, there is still a way that this report can be created manually. Here is a link to a post we have done previously on how you can create this Did Not Open list.

Is there an easy way to identify contacts that never open an email and delete them from our list? If a contact is in multiple lists, are they treated as a single contact or multiple contacts?

Hello @DanielL7303. We do not have a feature in Constant Contact that will identify these contacts but there is still a way to create this list manually. Check out this blog post that has a step-by-step process on how to create this. 

 

Also, if a contact is on multiple lists, the contact is treated as a single contact. Under their contact profile, we will display what lists they are on but they are only counted as one contact.

I have been told several times you will be able to determine if a person has not opened an email in the past ___.  For example i have a list but if a person has not opened in a year i want to delete them but i can only tell one email to the next... i need to know who has not opened in the past year so i can clean up my list. I am paying too much for people who are not using the service.  Price jump has really hit me hard and I need to have this ability.  WHEN WILL WE BE ABLE TO DO THIS??? please help
