IMPORTING CONTACTS - Setting DEFAULT address to WORK

I have a request -
When UPLOADING lists of Contacts into CC
I NEED that the default ADDRESS be WORK ADDRESS

Constant Contact has storage for 4x ADDRESSES in its database
- HOME
- WORK
- VACATION
- OTHER

by Default the import tool is placing the data as HOME Address.
Q - How do I change the DEFAULT settings to WORK Address?

[Otherwise, it appears that I am faced with having to change each imported record to WORK manually and I am sure that is not the case.]

2. On anther matter - when you want to ADD ONE Contact
The DEFAULT Address is OTHER
Can that default also be changed to WORK?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards
Ian

Re: IMPORTING CONTACTS - Setting DEFAULT address to WORK

Hi @user501128

Thank you for reaching out to the community about your contacts. I can understand how helpful it is to include multiple types of address in your  account. You are correct, we do offer for multiple address types, such as Home, Work or Other for these contacts. How are you importing your contacts? Though different address types are available, importing contacts from a file defaults to only Home. Being able to have a drop-down through this process to select your desired address type is feedback we have tracked. As a workaround in the meantime we do suggest continuing to manually adjust the address type. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Re: IMPORTING CONTACTS - Setting DEFAULT address to WORK

Hi Frankie-P
- I am importing from an xls file.
- I don't want to import multiple types.  Just one - their WORK details - WORK State / WORK Phone as the bare minimum.

As a workaround, importing 20 names I can understand that is not an unreasonable response.

Importing 200 names that is verging on an absurd suggestion to manually correct 200 contacts, never mind inserting a list with 2,000 names.  What CC is doing is introducing ERRORS into a perfectly CLEAN dataset.
It is way more than an "inconvenience".

I cannot believe that this has NOT been raised previously by other CC users as an ISSUE.
Q - How can the issue of DEFAULT settings be escalated with the CC software development team?

Re: IMPORTING CONTACTS - Setting DEFAULT address to WORK

Hi @user501128

Thank you for responding with these details! We have followed up with you on this through your email, but I wanted to make sure our response was shared here as well. Though uploading contacts through a file will automatically default to their home address, the good news is you can upload contacts work phone numbers as long as the column on your file is clearly labeled as their work phone. However for your contact’s work addresses, have you tried using a custom field? Custom fields are able to be recognized automatically as long as the columns in your file as labeled to match them.

I also apologize if the original workaround I have provided is not the answer you were looking for. We recognize it is not a solution to this feature request; it is something we suggest in the meantime. There are many factors that are used to decide what is added to or updated in our product which can cause us to sometimes not have a timeline for when a feature will be available. Though this may be the case, as previously mentioned in your original thread, we have submitted this feedback to our Product Team directly. The more users who reach out about this the more it is tracked to alert the appropriate teams.
