Line spacing

Line spacing

I am using a template but find I cannot adjust the spacing beween lines.  There is often way too much space between lines of a paragraph-- it looks double-spaced or more.  I have tried changing the font size, but nothing seems to work.  (As a graphic designer, this is important, as it looks amateurish the way it is....)

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for sharing your feedback on this feature. You now have the ability to control line spacing in the Third Generation Editor! When working in a text block you can change the spacing between your lines of text. Your choices of spacing are single, 1.2, 1.5, or double line spacing.

Hi @JeanneA25,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

We are still reviewing this feature request and we do not have any further updates at this time. I apologize for any frustrations that this has caused. In the meantime a workaround is to update the global font size in the design tab to be smaller for less line spacing, and larger for larger line spacing, then resize the font size in each block. Click here to view a video that explains this workaround. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Have a wonderful rest of your day!

How long you need to review for adding this such important function in your editor?

One year pass and still not seeing the solution for changing the line height from you. Please stop apologize and give us the exact date that you think you can have this function in editing area. Thanks!

Heya @Onyx-Healthcare,

Thanks for reaching out to us!  I am in complete agreement with you on the importance of this feature. Unfortunately, we don't have an exact date for this feature to go live, but I can say it is definitely on the development team's agenda.

Just adding my voice to this chorus. Fix the line spacing option soon, and all will be right with the world. Wait much longer, and we'll be looking at other options to manage our email campaigns.

Hi @ChrisC718

Thank you for including your feedback on this feature request! While the ability to control line spacing is not a feature that is yet available, we have tracked your feedback on this and submitted it to our engineers.

It is now September 2018.  Please, Constant Contact.  Line Spacing is so basic.  Either your engineers should be fired, or they are not paid enough.

Hi @SongsdhitC

I am so sorry for any inconvenience caused from not having this feature. I can definitely understand how helpful a feature like this will be available. While we do not currently have a time estimate of when it will be available, it is a feature request being tracked and looked into by our engineers. When this feature does become available we will notify customers through the Notification Center of your accounts.

We've been uploading our own custom HTML emails for years with CC, and I was excited to finally try out your templates for our next one. The fact that you're missing this very basic function (among others) is making what should be a simple task impossible. It's been a year and a half since this request was made, so it's obvious your team has no interest in fixing this issue. I'm sad to say that I have to go back to the old way and abandon trying to use your templates and editor. It's just way too limiting.

Hello @BoneC

Considering that you've just started trying to use one of our templates, your disappointment is absolutely understandable.  When working with a template you're essentially trading the complete control you had before, for ease of use and some pre-designed qualities.  We're still absolutely tracking requests such as this, and I'll add your request to the others that have already been mentioned in this thread.  I'm sorry that our current templates don't currently meet the needs for your vision of your campaign.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I would pay money for this feature! Ha ha!

Hi Frankie,

I am new to Constant Contact. Just started a campaign and the line spacing shows a 1 for an individual block and  a 1.2 for another individual block, but clearly this is not correct. It looks like it may be the opposite. I can't change the second individual block because its already a 1 but that is incorrect. Has anyone else had this problem.

Thanks,

Mona Bouillion

Hi @MonaBouillion. Thank you for pointing that out and I see exactly what you mean. Was this text copied and pasted from somewhere? If it was, it's possible that it brought over some formatting that caused the spacing to be off. I created a Support Copy of the email and I adjusted both text blocks so they are now set at 1 for the line spacing. You can now go in and adjust the line spacing if you think the text needs a little more breathing room.

If you compose your text in another package, such as Microsoft Word, and copy and paste into Constant Contact - this bypasses the Constant Contact line spacing control.  This can create what you saw.  I actually do this intentionally to get closer line spacing.

Hello @ARMF5,

Thank you for letting us know a good work around for more control over line spacing! We are working on ways for you all to do this in Constant Contact as well. We do apologize for the inconvenience at the moment.

Nope!

That doesn't do it.

I write emails that typically contain from six to 12 individual multi-paragraph stories for distribution within a group. Every one is single spaced.

But inter-linear spacing is not the same between stories.

How do I correct this?

Hi @John43

I apologize our line spacing feature is not working as easily as it should! Are you seeing this happen with any particular text or particular email campaign? I have taken a look at a few of your most recent email campaign can see your text is currently set to a 1.2 line spacing. One workaround we suggest is adding new text blocks into your campaign and setting its line spacing to 1 before adding your stories. Also, is any of your text copied and pasted from outside sources? We have seen some cases where pasting information from outside sources can carry over problematic formatting. Problematic formatting, along with different font sizes can cause changes in spacing. Larger font sizes will automatically add extra spacing. So this is something we would suggest keeping an eye on as well!

Hello,

It seems this issue is still not resolved? I only just started using constant contact as a client requested alternative, but the lack of line-height control is already affecting the functionality and look of some of my designs. It seems as if the line-height doesn't change when the font size changes, which sort of defeats the purpose of sizing the copy down.

Considering this issue dates back to April of 2017, i'm surprised that there hasn't been some sort of resolution to this issue. I understand there's always more to the story, but It shouldn't be that hard to insert another styling option such as this for the text blocks in the span of 8 months. If there are various issues aside from just line-height, perhaps an insertable html code block would be helpful so that users who need it could have full creative control over text styling through the use of html or inline css. I imagine it would solve this and most likely any future issues.

If there is any helpful information regarding this subject that I am unaware of, please advise as to where I can find it. Otherwise I would appreciate the added effort to solve this issue and a response that affirms it.

Thank You,

Nick

Hey @PhilI88,

Thank you for your reply!

I apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced adjusting the line spacing. In this case I have a workaround that should be of some assistance. You can change the font size on the design tab of your email campaign which should adjust the line spacing.

Capture.PNG

Please note that this will adjust the font size/line spacing for the entire email. That said, after you have adjusted the font size on the design tab, you can go into any one of your blocks and change the font size as needed.

I sure do hope that this helps! Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Have a great day!

Thanks for the quick response. This actually does help out quite a bit and is not a bad general solution to the issue. I was worried about how it might affect the different text sizes, but looks like the line-height for larger sizes won't go smaller than the default height of their own size. Very helpful, thank you! Only future issue I might run into is having the ability to control paragraph spacing, but that might be me being a little more particular than necessary.

Hi @PhilI88

You're welcome! I'm glad to hear this work around we've provided has helped. Being able to control line spacing is a feature request I would be happy to track in your account. I will be passing this feedback on to the appropriate team. We are always looking for ways to improve our user's experience!
