Purging addresses that never open emails

Purging addresses that never open emails

I have been sending emails, a bit randomly, for about three years. I plan to be more organized in the near future.

Meanwhile, some addresses have never opened a single email.  I would like to take them off the list to keep my list  less expensive.  Is there a way to search for "never opened"? Or is this a bad idea: keep them on the list if they don't unsubscribe?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. That is a great question! We unfortunately do not have a search option for any email addresses that have never opened your emails. However, there are steps you can take to get your did not opens on a list, and you can delete them if you choose. You can click here for instructions on this. Cleaning up your contact list is always a good idea!

In the meantime, if you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to us here. We are always happy to assist you in any way we can. Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you.  That sure is a lot of steps, but I will try it. Thanks for the quick reply!

I guess it is a solution, though extraordinarily complex, and I have to watch the video and write up my own guide: there's no written guide, as far as I can tell.  I don't think this is a paticularly good solution, so I don't plan to click "accepted solution."  Not your fault, of course!  You have been very helpful.

Meanwhile, I have done little purges by going to a recent email that has a good open percentage, looking at the Did Not Open list, and clicking names on the list.  When I get to a name that has never opened my emails, or has not opened the last five emails or whatever, I delete that name.

Hello @MeredithA21,

I'm sorry that our current solutions aren't up to the task. I'm passing your feedback on to our developers, so that they know exactly what you're looking for. If you have any other feedback or suggestions on how to make the product better, we'd love to hear them!

Please do submit this request to whomever does the program updates because it would be VERY VERY helpful to be able to search for contacts who have never opened any email. I'm going through the process of looking through THOUSANDS of email addresses to do this manually and of course this doesn't make me feel like Constant Contact is a highly user-friendly system. Search features need to be significantly enhanced. Thank you.

Yes. Please have the developers give us a way to see people who have not opened any emails, or any emails in the past two years, etc.  There is no solution now, so I can't "accept as solution."

Hi @MeredithA21 and @NancyS294

I apologize for any inconvenience not having this feature has caused. We're always looking for ways to improve our users' experiences. Because of this I did want to let you both know this feature request has been submitted in both of your accounts and passed on our engineers!

This NEEDS to be a feature for users!  I am looking into this very same issue because I noticed that an email from another company gave me this message which made me think that their email program has this feature otherwise it would not have noted this message!  This is very important not only for keeping cost low for users but also to ensure that we are reaching folks that want to receive our information.

See message I received below as a reference:

PHEW! We thought we'd lost you!

We noticed you haven’t opened any of our emails for nearly a year. Our system automatically stops sending emails after 12 months, so we’re glad we got through.

Now that you've opened this, you don't have to do anything else to keep receiving important compliance updates and special offers from XXX

If you prefer to no longer receive these updates and offers, please click the unsubscribe link below.

Thank you!

Hi @MichaelR72691

Thank you for sharing your feedback on a feature like this! The good news is our development teams has added the ability to filter contacts based on their activity with your emails. Have you tried using our segment feature? This feature will allow you to create segments of your contacts based on not opening any of your last 5 emails, a specific email, or any email. These contacts can then be added into a new list, and sent a follow-up email like this. I hope this helps.

Checking email records one by one is not an accepted solution for finding those who have never opened an email. We need an Export to CSV or Excel that lists each email in our directory and totals how many emails they opened for the reporting period. Thanks!

Hi @DianK,

Thank you for providing that feedback. I apologize that our current steps for gathering the Did Not Open are not up to the task. However, I have submitted your feedback to our developers. We appreciate any further feedback that could help enhance our users' experience. Let us know if you need assistance with anything else.

Thank you for your answer.  I love Constant Contact, but I don't think the developers are going to do something about this.  Mousing around a bit on the Help page, I found that similar questions were raised in 2010, and they have not been resolved.

I believe this question has not been resolved because it is not in the business interests of Constant Contact to resolve it. I believe I am simply stating a fact. If we could all purge our emails, easily, of deadwood, then we will all have smaller email lists, and we will mostly be paying Constant Contact less per month.

This is not an accusation of some kind.  I just believe in cause and effect. CC is a great product: Why has this issue not been resolved for about eight years?   It doesn't strike me as  huge programming challenge.  So there must be another reason.  This is my candidate for the "other reason."

However, software companies usually find out, sooner or later, that customer satisfaction is key.  Changing software is far easier than buying a new computer, car, furnace,  or any physical object. If you aren't willing to cannibalize your own software products, in the long run, someone will do it for you.

In other words, I suggest CC should fix this problem.

We will continue to gather user feedback on this feature. In the meantime, please let us know if you have additional questions about the suggest method to complete this task.

Hey there - hope you dont mind me jumping in here..... has there been any updates regarding this?

I am looking for a fast and efficient way to clean up my email lists and remove subscribers who have not opened emails in a while.

Hello @EmilyW660

Thanks for joining us in the Community!

We certainly understand the value that it would be to clean up your list based on who's been active from your content. We are always looking to improve the platform to make it easier to maintain your lists. One of the best current resources would be the way to generate a list based on who's been active and who's not. For more information on this please click here. Once you create this list of contacts that haven't opened your emails over a period of time you can quickly remove these from your account all at once. Hope this helps!
