Quick Tip: Does Image File Type Matter?

Quick Tip: Does Image File Type Matter?

You might already know that you can save images as several different file types. But did you know that there's a best file type for each type of image?

PNGs: This file type is known for keeping images high in quality. It's the best thing to use if you've got text in your image or a lot of detail. The downside? PNGs tend to have larger file sizes.

JPGs (JPEGs): JPG is the gold standard of image file types for internet viewing. It uses tricks to compress images so that the file size stays easy to upload. That's good! However, that compression can mean some fuzziness as the trade off.

GIFs: When it comes to a small file size that also allows for basic transparency, GIFs are the way to go. The only thing to keep in mind is that they are limited to 256 colors, which makes them less than ideal for photos.

Now that you know the facts about file types, check out other ways to optimize your image!
