Space bar not working in Firefox - April 2022

NeslyO

Whenever I type text and input space with space bar the space disappears immediately, so if I continue to type the words run together, I'm not having this issue on any other platforms using the same keyboard and browser, any ideas of what might be causing this?  I have a video I can share.

Final Update 11/3: Hello everyone. I'm pleased to say this is now resolved. A fix was rolled out this morning that included several editor improvements, including this one where spaces were being automatically removed in some cases in Firefox.

If you still observe the space bar being removed between words, I'd try restarting your browser or clearing cache just to make sure the old code isn't cached somewhere.

I'm truly sorry this one took so long to resolve, but happy to see if be addressed.

Hello @JAC ,

Our devs are aware of an issue happening in recent versions of Firefox causing issues with spacing. Other browsers shouldn't be having these issues, and you may be able to get around it by using the private mode of Firefox.

When you're able, could you please provide the following info for our devs' continued troubleshooting:

  • Firefox version (Firefox 99+ or something else?)
  • Operating system type and version (i.e. Mac or PC and version found in your settings)
  • Does using private/incognito mode work?
  • If private/incognito mode works, does disabling all extensions work on the normal version? If so, please list the extensions. You can also enable individual extensions until the problem is discovered.
  • Is it across the board in all blocks and lines of text, or just specific blocks or lines of text?

Thanks for replying. I am using Firefox: 99.0.1

I did not try it in incognito mode. It finally stopped running together after closing the tab more than once and logging back in. MAC Mojave

It was all in text boxes - new ones as well as old ones that were being edited.

Thank you.

Thank you for providing that info. If and when there's an update to the issue, the devs will notify you directly. If it does start to occur again, try seeing if another available browser or private mode alleviates the issue. If not, please reply here so we can update the case notes with those details.

  • Firefox version 100.0  on on both the Laptop and PC, both having the same issue.
  • Operating system type and version Win10
  • Does using private/incognito mode work? NO
  • Is it across the board in all blocks and lines of text, or just specific blocks or lines of text? New Text Blocks seem to work OK, until you close, sign out, sign back in and the problem is back.

I am having the same problem: entering text is extremely sluggish, and spaces between words are removed as I type.  I am running Firefox 100.0, the latest update.  The problem occurs whenever I create a new email campaign; it does not occur when I copy a previous campaign as my template for a new one.  The problem persists in incognito/private mode.

I am having the same issue.  Space bar doesn't work when I am typing, whether it is in a text or a heading.  I can type a whole sentence and zero spaces show up between words.  If I go back and put the cursor in between words and then hit the space bar, it works, but not while typing regularly.  I can copy and paste text from a word document and it keeps the spaces, but then I have to go and change all the formatting every time once it's in the email body.  Not really a solution.  I also tried Firefox in troubleshooting mode, no add-ons, and private mode.  None of them worked.  I'm running the latest version of firefox (99.0.1, 64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro.

Hello @GuilfordFreeL ,

Thank you for the info. We've marked your account as affected, and submitted it to the engineers for further review. If and when they have an update regarding this, they'll notify you directly. In the meantime, I'd advise using a different browser if FF's private mode doesn't alleviate this issue.

I had this same issue with the space bar!!! Totally insane. I was using Firefox.  Open in Chrome, no problem-o!

I just have to say that being happy that people are being forced to change their browser of choice is untenable, imho.

I went in to do my weekly eletter. I copied the eletter that went out last Thursday (4/28). Obviously there's been some sort of update as the "editing" box looks different (e.g., when you want to resize the text, instead of a list of numbers you have to use an up & down arrow). And I'm having this ridiculous space bar problem as well. This is crazy. Yes, I use FireFox, I have no interest in using Chrome. What in the world did Constant Contact do this time?

Hi @SherylS5. This is an issue we are aware of with Firefox. For a better editing experience, we recommend using Chrome while we investigate this further.

Could you provide a status update on this problem? You indicate that it's an issue you are aware of, and you at least imply that engineers are trying to solve it. At one point one of you CC staffers said that you had not been able to replicate the problem. This is very odd, because it seems all you would need to do is open Firefox. My experience tells me that most people who routinely use Firefox are not likely to want to switch to Chrome or Edge. And since our testing shows that disabling extensions doesn't solve it, you really can't continue to blame that as a problem.

Looking forward to hearing where things stand.

Had same issue in Firefox.  I've switched to Chrome to edit text until there is a solution.

Tried logging out and logging in again.

Tried using a different template.

Tried using return.

Nothing works.

Can not use the software.

Hello @AllysonH631,

I do apologize that you are running into that! I was able to access your site using Google Chrome, and I could not replicate that issue. What browser are you using? Are you able to try incognito mode, or try another browser to see if the issue is still occurring? I'm wondering if there may be a plugin/extension installed on your browser that is interfering with the editor.

If that doesn't work, I do believe that a screen share might be beneficial in diagnosing this - I would recommend giving our support team a call at 866-289-2101. They are here during these hours:

I've been seeing this issue intermittently for the last week or so. It occurs using both Firefox and Safari, though not always at the same time. Though I can sometimes switch browsers, this doesn't always work.

Update 10/4/2022: Our engineers are in the process of finalizing a fix to resolve the space bar issue in Firefox. This issue arose after an update to the Firefox browser along with a defect we found with additional spaces being deleted in a campaign. We will update this post again once we hear the fix is ready to be implemented in accounts.

We're sorry we have not been able to provide more timely updates. We felt it was best to update this post when we were close to implementing a solution instead of replying with no true news to share. Our engineers and product teams are addressing additional improvements and deploying a fix to provide the best experience possible in the editor for everyone.

We understand some of you prefer to work in Firefox but for a smoother experience to create and send your emails, the workaround of using an alternate browser is encouraged as we do not see the spacing issue elsewhere. This is not a solution per se but it will help you work in your account in the meantime.

I am having the same issue. CC has worked flawlessly with my computer until yesterday, when the space bar was no longer recognized. I did not install any software, extensions, or update Firefox. Text input in other websites works fine.

Firefox 99.0.1

Window 11 Home, 21H2, 22000.613

Windows Experience Feature Pack 1000.20000

This happens in all text blocks and lines of text.

Thank in advance for investigating and fixing!

Apparently there are a couple threads about this. I posted this in the other one and then came across this thread right after, so posting it here also.

This is not one of the questions you ask but maybe it will shed some light.

I experimented with typing some text into the cross-device template. As far as I can tell there are only two of them, though I feel like I have heard people refer to more than that. Here is a screenshot.

If you look at the section that has brackets around the content (I don't know what copy block is used to create that, it was in the template when I started using it.) When I type in that area inside the brackets, the spaces are fine. But if I start a separate paragraph outside those brackets, or bring in a new text block to type in, the spaces disappear as I type. The only workaround I can find is to type the text first in another program and then copy/paste it into CC. Not ideal, really. Sometimes you need to add or change text while you are designing the email. But maybe your techies, who will know what that bracketed copy is doing, will be able to figure out why spaces work there in FF but not in regular text blocks.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for the screenshot, @rcppubs23! This was really helpful. It's interesting how the space bar works within brackets. We brought your specific example over to our teams that are investigating the issue. We're keeping a close eye on this and will update the thread once we hear something.
