Testing Insert Greeting Tag only shows with my name. My account is John. However when I test with other colleagues, it shows up with my name instead of theirs.
Hello @PaigeS197,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I apologize for any confusion that this has caused, but when sending test emails from your account to yourself or to your colleagues the Greeting Tag will always populate with the Account Owner's name. When you send a live version to your contacts the Greeting Tag will be able to pull their information instead of yours.
Hey!
I'm having the same issue now. Caused me quite a bit of stress! Confusing to me why the "test" wouldn't be an accurate representation of what will actually happen. 3 years later and this issue still isn't fixed? common now!
Warmly,
B
Since test emails can be sent to non-contacts, we are not able to pull contact info through the test email system besides the account owner's. If you want to "test" the email with contacts, then we recommend setting up a separate test list of contacts and sending the "test" as a live email to that list.
I originally had a test preview show up correctly but when I sent, the names are blank!!! Is there a way to modify after being sent?
Hello @PamelaP72843 ,
So looking at your template's setup, you're not using a true Greeting Tag. You're using an Insert Contact Details setup, because it looks like instead of keeping first and last names as separate, default contact fields in your account, you instead upload names as a custom field called Names/Nombres. This means that the Preview will have this detail blank since Previews don't pull custom field info, and live sendouts will need the contacts to actually have something for that custom field. Since there was no secondary / backup added for the custom field, any contacts that don't have a value for Names/Nombres, will end up with nothing but a comma and the rest of that initial text.
You can edit your email after it's been sent by copying it. However this obviously won't overwrite the email in people's inboxes, as there are legal and Compliance-related elements that prevent such capabilities. You'd have to send out the corrected copy to your contacts, if you want them to see it.
It's just really silly that when I selected Insert a Tag, the default selection is a specialty field "Name". Being relatively new and trying to use your tools, it's just mind boggling that the default is not "First Name" of contacts since that seems to be the most used field to personalize emails!
