Unwanted, unexpected background color in text box

blue box.PNG

My campaign email has a white background. Between sending the test email to myself/coworker and sending the actual email to the mailing list, a solid blue background appeared in one of the text boxes. This rendered the black text in that box barely legible. At no time did I change the background color to blue and the settings showed the background color choice to be white. When I copied the email, the background settings still showed white as the color selected for all backgrounds, but now three more text boxes had blue backgrounds. In each case, the settings showed the background to be set to white although the appearance was blue.

The first customer service person at Constant Contact had no solution. The second customer service person suggested I choose a random color for the background and then choose white again, saying that sometimes the background color doesn't "stick" for some reason. This appeared to work: The text box showed blue background, the setting was set to white, I changed it to pink, the background text turned pink, the setting was set to pink, I changed it to white, the background became white, and the setting show it was set to white. Although it appears to be fixed at this point, I am unsure if it is permanent. Has anyone else had this issue and can offer guidance? Thank you.

I am using the latest version of Chrome and have built my email using the latest generation of CC editor.

Hello @StratisHealth,

Thank you for bringing this up.  I have been looking through some of our resources to see if I can find record of something like this being reported and I am not coming up with much.  I am making sure to track this and I, like you, would love to hear if anyone else has had this problem.

Yes, we are having this same issue.  When we change the font color, it changes the whole background color from white to blue.

Very annoying.

Hello @ChristineS09359,

I apologize that you are experiencing this as well. We are aware that this is happening and other customers of ours have reported this happening as well, and we are currently working on a fix. The workaround at the moment is to save the email, exit, and reenter the email. That should allow you to change the font color without your background changing color as well. Again, I apologize that you are experiencing this and you will be contacted when this has been resolved. Thank you for your patience and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hello, just chiming in to say that this is still happening.

It's been a minor irritant, something that in the past caused a shoulder shrug before resetting. However I arrived here because the irritation is growing and we are looking for a better solution.

The biggest issue is when the problem pops up while the document work is being passed between multiple people. We don't know whether the change is intentional or not. Thank you.

Hello @SueWF ,

Thank you for reaching out about this! Our teams would like to look into this further. Can you please reply with the following information:

Did you put in a specific color code?
What email client is this happening in?
Campaign name:
Please provide screenshots of the issue

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hi! Just checking in in January 2021 to let you know that I just had the same problem. I was working with all white and gray backgrounds, but suddenly one of my text boxes changed to a bright blue color. The first two times it happened, I changed it back to white, clicked save, and kept working. The last time, it appeared to have stayed white so I scheduled the email and logged out. A little while later I had a friend contact me telling me about the black text on the blue background issue.

I have noticed that it tends to happen when I move or duplicate blocks in the document. I have also noticed that if I don't save, exit and go back in, it's often back to the correct format. But if you've made changes and need to save it, that doesn't work. You have to fix it.

It's now April 2020, and, yes, we continue to have this problem from time to time. If it happens prior to sending the campaign, it can be fixed. But often, even though I send a test just prior to scheduling it to make sure everything looks good, some block will have changed color in the final email.

Hello @PEGGYO96 ,

We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing this issue as well. For the sake of engineers' continued investigation, could you please provide some of the following details:

  1. Did you put in a specific color code / hexcode? If so what was it?
  2. What email client is this happening in (e.g. Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)?
  3. The campaign's name
  4. Are you able to provide any screenshots of the differences between what our website's UI (Preview / editor view) shows and what is actually received on your end?

I think I found a solution for this finally!!! But it only works if you use a white background...or at least from the minimal testing I did that's what I assume. I went in and changed these two settings to fill in white and it works for forwarding emails! You just have to go back through and make sure the font color for your headings/buttons is correct. May not work for everyone but it's a start!

Thanks for this tip. Using the new editor, I was getting a solid colored frame around the entirety of an email message when viewed on mobile. I hadn't changed these color choices under the design tab, but I guess it happened automatically during customization of individual dividers and/or headlines? Anyway, resetting both to white as a final step after finishing my work in the email corrected the problem.

Hello @WoodlyndeSchool,

It sounds like that definitely could have been what happened or color was selected by accident. I am happy to hear that changing it to white helped!
