guests and items for an event

I am trying to create an event that allows registrants to sign up for one of a variety of CE roundtable discussions, they can give 1st snd and 3rd choices.  These registrants can bring guests and I want to allow the guests to sign up for the roundtables as well.  I set up the roundtables as additional items and then under each item I put in a limit of 9 per roundtable.  But when i tested it, it was not giving a choice for the guests to sign up for the items, only the registrant so I went in under each additional items and edited it to add options, Registrant 1 and Guest 1 and Guest 2 so now it allow guests to sign up for the additional items but it change my limite of 9 to the  amount of options I added and will not let others sign up for the item once it has be chosen.   Help what can I do I am at a loss. I hope you understand what I am saying

I think I am understanding what you are looking to achieve, but I don't believe that you will be able to achieve it exactly that way.

If want guests to be able to choose, then they should go through the registration process themselves. So the main registrant could share the event link with their intended guests and let them know they will have to complete the registration to attend and make those three choices themselves. Add in verbiage to your landing page, registration form and the email invite with explicit instructions to send the link to their guests, and have their guests register themselves, so they can choose their top three with verbiage similar to below.

"Please have your intended guests register by following the link below,

(Insert link here).
