if you have 500 emails

can you load an excel of 500 personalized names - so each receipient gets a personalized email

or do you have to do this 1 name at a time ie do you have a mail merge capability withing constant contact

When you import contacts, most options will allow names to be imported alongside them. We'd advise having their name values be separate - first name and last name. For example, when you import your contacts via a file (CSV, XLS, etc.), if you've formatted the file properly it should have the names in columns alongside the corresponding email addresses - the field that determines a unique contact.
