Ability to see and edit Notes with Contact Redesign

Hello!  With the recent updates to the contacts, simple functionality is no longer available.

1) The notes are no longer available.  I understand that I can run the report and then create a custom field and re-upload, but that seems unnecessary. The notes field was very helpful with the date/time stamp.

2) Adding contacts to the lists now requires multiple clicks.  Previously, you could type the first few letters and the list would auto-populate that would allow you to select.  Now, you have to scroll through the list.

Seriously, NOTES is gone? I am hating the new interface. I’ve used the NOTES capability for five years, and now I can no longer see nor update with new notes as I’m talking with a client. I loved that it date-stamped each of my entries so I could look back and refer to things that had happened for my client previously. I used this feature extensively, and if it’s gone for good, I’m finding a new way to send out emails and keep up with my clients. Very disappointed.

Your support team told me the only way to see the notes was to export my contacts and then re-import with a custom text box. I tried putting a text box in one of my new contacts, and the text box only allowed 256 characters. Not enough.

So bring it back!

The contacts dashboard has been updated and now I am unable to see my notes without working around and exporting them to excel. Is this temporary?

In the effort to improve the Contacts look, feel and functions, CC removed the Notes section for individual contacts!! Incredulous! For a business using this feature, these are important references for many business contacts about their orders, dialogues about orders, repeat customers, and potential new customer leads. This is used for marketing, which CC should be all about, right? Crazy that this was removed and without any heads up or considerate warning from CC. Deleting CC's customers' data is a serious offense. The data from the Contacts Notes section should be accurately and completely restored to each individual contact entry, as should this feature.

What? the contact "notes" functionality is gone? Unbelievable.

Does no one at Constant Contact (CC) realize the value and power of this functionality? For over ten years, our company has used the "notes" functionality as a CRM (customer relationship management) tool. This is how we kept track of each contact's history with us and this functionality is where we stored details about the contact that did not fit anywhere else in the CC customer profile.

Did I miss something? Was there an announcement about this pending change? This is devastating to our company. Now, after ten years of being a loyal CC subscriber (and a strong promoter of CC to many other small businesses like ours) we are driven to find an alternative solution. What a mess.

I am willing to pay a premium to get the "notes" functionality. I am also willing to pay a premium to get back the old functionality of adding and editing contact records. The new process requires too many clicks. Very inelegant. Disappointing.

What is your plan to resolve this, CC?

Bring back notes. I am not ok with having them just taken away. Period.

Please bring back NOTES as a function in our contacts. NOTES are quite critical to business. They let us know more about our contacts, what shows they attended, what classes they attended, when they signed up for our list. It's incredible important data for us. Please put this feature back on the site!

Please bring back the notes in the Contacts section. The new and improved updates are dead to me without the notes that I've curated over many years.

Where did the notes on our contacts go? I input lots of important information about when and how I met my contacts and now it is gone! You need to let people know before you wipe out their data! I need this information back. I'd like it in the contact data base but will take it as a one time spreadsheet if that is all you an do. How can I trust you with my data if you arbitrarily choose to delete it ???

We would also like the notes feature back, as well as the ability to add a contact to a list by typing, rather than scrolling down to find the right list. Also, can you make tags a column that could be included when looking at a list and it's contacts? Currently you can modify the columns that show up, which is a nice feature. It would be helpful to see what tags belong to a contact.

Also please let the notes be available as one of the columns in the list view!

Hello, Has a decision been made about this issue? It seems there are many people who really need the NOTES feature back. Thank you.

100% need this back. Not sure why this is gone, but now I'm stuck using a second tool and a second contact management system to keep track of notes on my contacts. Mind boggling that the feature was removed "in the name of progress".

FWIW: I run a monthly dinner series and I use the notes to keep track of the details about my attendees, including food allergies. I can't use tags for each and every food issues or discussion point related to their needs or business interests (that would end up being hundreds of unnecessary tags). Notes was a critical workflow tool. Now I have to create a spreadsheet outside of CC to duplicate the contact database. Kinda pointless to keep a CRM if I'm creating a backup CRM to make notes in!

I need my notes. I have very important information in the notes and it's all gone.  I am not okay with this.  I would of liked to have been told about this before they were taken away.  There is a specific note file I need and its no longer available. This hurts our company. How can you take a big piece of the data base away?

CC:  What is wrong with you??  Along with so many others in this stream, I use notes to keep track of critical information.  It is obviously still there since you can download contents of that field when downloading to Excel, so JUST BRING IT BACK INTO THE INTERFACE AND REPORTING!!!!!!!!!

I also need notes. It's fundamental to the way I use Constant Contact. I will have to look for an alternative solution.

To BobM806 and to anyone else who is part of this tread: when you find an alternative email marketing solution in response to Constant Contact's elimination of its notes functionality, please post the name of it and its URL here. I have tried living without the notes functionality in CC for a few months now, and it is just too cumbersome to manage two disconnected databases. Thanks.

Ditto to like every other person. Please bring back notes!

Also! Scrolling through our 50 or so lists is just annoying so I would vote for the way to was to come back.

I preferred the old version.  At the very least, please bring back the notes!

I find it outrageous that Constant Contact is expecting us to export our list and reimport in order to access the notes we had in the account previous to the rollout of the new Contacts interface.  This should have been part of what they did when they implemented it. Did the developers really think that customers would put things in the notes and then not care that they just disappeared without warning?

If we do export and re-import, what else might it change? For instance, will it affect the date record of when a contact subscribed originally?

I also want to second @SteveH comment about allowing the notes to be included in a column in the list view.

I've heard they plan to add the notes feature into the redesign. Supposedly by end of February but estimating software projects is notoriously difficult.

Well, if they do, I hope they convert our old notes into it.

I see several requests for returning notes to the contacts form - it is important for me to be able to make notes as to why i have subscribed or unsubscribed someone. Please put it back!!!

I would like to add that notes were a very useful function and I would like the old contact view option brought back. We would use it to add things like the date(s) of purchase, shipping details, bonus items, etc. Please bring it back!

It looks like "Notes" functionality has returned to CC.  Even the old notes are back.  Woo-hoo!  A sincere "thank you" to whomever at CC made the decision to bring back this essential functionality.  For those of you who participated in this CC forum thread, please check it out for yourselves and let the rest of us know if it works to your satisfaction.

Very glad this is restored. I have yet to work with how it functions, but like other people who have complained about all the extra clicks, I am not really delighted that this has added yet another click to working through a contact record. I imagine it was done to keep it as an add on and not need to do a lot of additional programming, but I really do feel all the extra clicking and scrolling that is needed in the new interface has made the interface more cumbersome. I suppose that since this type of thing has happened wtih every new iteration, it could only be expected it would happen again.

We also have a case where zip codes have been imported into a custom field that was designed for something else. I don't know whether those zip codes, when imported, override what was in that field, or if the records where we have zip codes just don't have anything in that field.

I also want to draw attention to the second issue raised by the person who started this thread, the fact that when managing lists, you have to scroll down and down if you have multiple lists. It used to be easy to navigate by typing in a few letters of the list name. This is a big deal when adding contacts. Since this IS still possible in the screen where you set up the email to go out, it's obviously something that's possible.
