Contacts aren't being added to list

Every week, there is one occasion when I take a large number of contacts and try to add them to a list - but they do not get added. I refresh the Contacts Activity page for 30 minutes and it never works. It would alwasy say "0 contacts added to 1 list".

UPDATE:

I just tried to add 21,700 contacts to a list. The Contacts Activity page says it was successfull. When I view the email list, it clearly was not successful because the list is empty.

UPDATE #2:

Tried exporting those 21,700 contacts into an excel file. The Contacts Activity page showed it was processing the export and then the processing suddenly disappeared from the page...
