Date format is too domestic and not international

I ask people to specify today's date as I have no other way to tell subscribers when they signed up (?) However, MM/DD/YYYY sequence is only done by 5% of the world (people in the US). 95% of the people think you made a mistake and meant DD/MM/YYYY. Can you have a more generic format like 2-Sep-2015 or 9-Feb-2015?
