Mass contact editing

There needs to be a way to make mass contact edits - for example, if you have 100 contacts from a particular company and their address changes - how do you edit without going into each contact's information and manually making changes for each one?

Hi Angie,

Thanks for providing this feedback. Currently, the only way to do this is by making the updates in a file and then importing the file.

I might first suggest doing an Advanced Search for the company name. You can then select all contacts within the search results and Export them to an Excel file. You can then make your edits and use the Add Contacts - From a file option to update the file. On the screen where it asks you to choose a list, there is a check-box below to say that you are just updating the contact information.

It would be nice to be able to edit multiple contacts at once, similar to adding multiple contacts. I find editing contacts to be cumbersome.

Thanks for posting this feedback. At this time you would need to import a file of contacts to update if you wanted to edit more than one at a time.

How can I edit contacts without having to open them all up individually?

When editing in this view, after making a change, then your screen defaults back to the active list. It should go back to the same list I was working on. Susan

Hi @LorettaC33

Thanks for posting. It sounds like you are clicking to reload the contacts tab after making edits. Since the page is refreshing you will revert to the defaults. Instead you can use the back arrow on your browser window and it will lead you right back to the page you left off on.

Hi @DavidS837

The only way to do a mass edit is via file import. You can import new or updated information about your contacts via an excel or CSV file and it will overwrite. You will need to make sure first & last name, email address or social profile match exactly to make sure the information on the correct contact updates.

There hasn't been any movement on this in a year and a half, if this is still something you want to see please create a new post.

It's frustration to NOT have the ability to have to select one contact at a time to Edit! This takes a lot of time. Why do we not have the ability to open a List, view all the contacts, then have the ability to edit ANY of the contacts in that list? This, of course, would be applicable ONLY for those contacts that we are importing/adding manually—NOT for those who have opted-into the email list. If a group of names has been "Added by you" it should be able to be modified by "you" also!!!

If you want to mass delete information in a Constant Contact field, however, you can't just remove the information from the field in and Excel file, upload it, and expect it to overwrite the current info in that field.  It WILL NOT DO IT.  You have to put something else in that field to overwrite what's already in the field, and a space in the field won't do it either.  This causes a whole other set of problems.

Sure wish Constant Contact would catch up with the rest of the digital world and make it possible to make mass changes to any field in the record.
