I am trying to search a contact by a detail of their email or last name, all of which I could select for in your old template, but this feature seems to have disappeared. Where is it? How am I supposed to do a detailed search now in your system?
please put a "contains" in the advanced search!!
The new contacts interface is horrible! A tremendous step back. The old interface automatically searched on all columns, so I could enter a portion of a name or an email and get all the hits. The new interface searches just the selected columns, so if I'm trying to see if someone is listed I have to search, never being sure if the information I have is complete or current, on first name, then last name, then email before determining that it is not there. Terrible!
Hi @WPRA. Thank you for your feedback and for providing examples of this type of search would work better for you. Our Beta Contact tool is still under development and we'll take this into consideration as we continue to make updates to it. I'll also open this up for voting so other Beta users can comment and vote.
I completely agree. I hate the new interface. Three things specifically -
1. the loss of the auto-fill option so that the contact search is not dependent upon an exact email address, as those change all the time.
2. Unsubscribe and resubscribe. It was very efficient to resubscribe someone and then notify them that they'd been resubscribed. Now all I seem to be able to do is add them back to a list with no way of alerting the person.
3. List exports - I've been told that for now, the ability to export a list of unsubscribed is not possible. I have to export the entire list and then sort it myself. I'm sorry, but why do I have to take on that burden?
Hi @AndrewM3 - Thank you, great feedback on all 3 points. I wanted to give an update on one thing you mentioned:
A relatively new development, but this part should be fixed. If you navigate to Contacts, filter for Unsubscribed, and Select All you should see Export available under Actions. I don't believe this was available at the time of your comment, so just wanted to make sure we circled back with you. We will try to keep this thread updated with other relevant developments.
I was reverted back to the older contact management version. MUCH BETTER! Thanks.
Hi @RobertaC477 what are the steps you're taking to search for this address? Are you looking for your search to auto-populate based on the partial email address you enter? Are you unable to find your contact by searching through the last name category rather than email?
Please delete the advanced search function. Sometimes I only know one part of an email address but there is no "contains" option. Or please revert back to the old way where you can do a free search of all the contacts without specific fields involved.
Agreed... I type a name and record number for the 'Company' field. So one contact could include "Client 1234".
If I search for '1234' - no result. ugh. I just realized this and wasted over an hour of my time entering data that cannot be used.....
...and now I have to figure out a hack to circumvent this crappy search GUI, because I cannot use Custom Fields either... I have to enter another ticket to address that problem - Custom Fields can NOT be searched at all.
This seems basic and I am disappointed that a company focused on interacting with contacts has such a craptastic Customer search.
[edit 2020-08-10: I realize there's an advanced search, but the operators should include "has" or "contains" (in addition to is/starts with/is not/is blank)... or at least expand the auto populated search results to include the 'has' results.]
[edit 2 2020-08-10: Wildcard search is a thing... it's just not advertized.... use "*" as an operator. https://community.constantcontact.com/t5/Managing-Contacts/How-to-search-using-quot-contains-quot-in...]
Hi @AndrewK51122 at this time our updated contact management search tool can only search for addresses that 'begins with' or 'ends with' the search detail entered. It is a feature request we are tracking to have the ability of searching for contacts the way you have described. Because of this we have opened up your idea so other users can weigh in as well.
Hi @JonL940 what logic are you looking for when viewing your contacts? Also, what details are you searching for through the previous advanced function?
Anyone else hate the new update to contacts? the search field is now basically useless. you can no longer search a partial for anything. you need to enter the entire domain name, including .com I used to put in a partial name or a partial company name in the search field and anything with that letter configuration would show up. now you need the entire last name and have to drop down and select name. or you have to put the entire domain and drop down and select domain. a quick contacts search is no longer an option. CONSTANT CONTACT DEVELOPERS - IF YOU ARE LISTENING - PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SEARCH CAPABILITIES OF A PARTIAL ACROSS ALL FIELDS.
I very much dislike how you have changed the "Contacts" section of my account. I used to be able to search by typing in a few characters and it would pull up all relevant contacts, and now it does not do that. Now I have to type the exact email address or an entire name before it pulls up the contact. This is a step backward in efficiency. I would highly suggest that you switch this capability back.

Hi Frankie -
There's now a dropdown list for choosing how to search (name, company - etc). The previous version with just one search box that found anything from any data field was great.... Thanks.
Hi @Electra7 thank you for sharing this feedback with us! The original thread you posted on was a general thread on our updated contact management dashboard. Because you are specifically speaking of the ability to search contacts with partial details I have merged your post into the appropriate thread on this feature request.
YES!! Please implement this! I've been waiting for this function for YEARS and I'm pretty sure I've requested it before.
In addition to "Contains", "And" and "or", it would also be very helpful to have "Contains data" or "does not contain data".
Hi @tbarkanCAE we’re sorry to hear you feel this way! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re always open to ways we can better our user’s experience. Because of this we have merged your post into a larger, but similar thread.
I pretty sure that I used to be able to search by any part of a company name, but now I must put in the first part of the company name to pull it up successfully. For example, I can't just search for the restaurant we have with "Pizza" in the name, I have to actually type in "Round" to come up with "Round Table Pizza". Or, I have to type "The" to get "The Law Office of John Doe".
We use Constant Contact to communicate with our clients who are companies. The contact people within those companies changes often. We need to easily be able to search by company name and this functionality has greatly decreased with the recent changes.
Please provide an expanded ability to search our subscriber databases. Your system used to provide this ability. Now, we have to know the exact email address, input the @ sign, etc., etc.
Searching has simply become too difficult.
Please, just provide the ability to search for a letter, combination of letters, a portion of an email, etc. I want to eliminate competitors, people who subscribe from organizations I don't want on my list and so on.
Please and thank you.
Hi @BioPharmGuy. Are you making sure to select Email Domain in the dropdown next to the search box? Also, you will need to add anything that comes after the domain such as .com or .org for the search to populate with results.
I didnt realize that was a thing. Still doesn't explain why it doesn't return a string that I know is in an email. Can it only search for a string at the beginning of an email or name?
Hi @BioPharmGuy. That is correct. The search feature as it is right now does not have a "contains" element to it and will only search for the beginning or end of a domain or other selection from the dropdown. We have an open thread that has this feature request so I will merge this there.
I agree - we need to be able to search by the email domain: @gmail, or @google or @lastname. I used to be able to do this, but you removed this ability. I'm very displeased.
Can’t believe that constant contact does not have a partial email search method. That there is no wildcard method to search my customer base using only part of the email. If I can’t read a customer’s writing and can’t read the first two letters that I can’t search for remainder of email
We're updating the status of this idea to more accurately reflect its current status with our engineering team and also made slight changes to the subject line in order for it to be more easily found. We can't guarantee a commitment to include a "contains" type of search functionality but it should indicate some awareness that we have heard your feedback and could be taken under consideration for a future release.
