A way to personalize? (ie mail merge)

Re: Dynamic Content for email

For our emails, I primarily use article blocks and I wanted to see if there is a way to create an email that will add / hide blocks as they apply to the contact.

For example - I work for a radio station group - 3 stations: WFPL, WUOL & WFPK. Some of our contacts want to receive information for just WFPL so they only get the WFPL newsletter. Some want WFPL and WFPK, but not WUOL so we send the WFPL and WFPK newsletter (2 seperate emails) to them, but not the WUOL newsletter. Some ask for info for all 3 - which means 3 seperate emails. Some of the information is repeated in every newsletter (for example - some promotion that applys to all 3 stations) and so it creates some duplication among emails.

I'm hoping there is a way to code the article blocks. So that I can then code the contacts themselves to receive only 1 newsletter with the appropriate station-specific article blocks. Essentually providing the contacts with the info they want, in 1 newsletter vs. 3.

Obviously I'm not super tech savy so any help / recommendations you have will be helpful! Thank you.

Strip <#cdata-section> opening and closing tags

I've been trying to use a cdata block in the XHTML campaign form to create dynamic links, and it seems pretty close to getting what I want it to do, except the links are broken due to the system replacing the CDATA open and close blocks with <#cdata-section> and </#cdata-section > - Because these aren't valid XHTML anyway and display poorly in email clients, I was wondering if they could be removed.

Currently if I put in something like

<a href='#<Property name="Subscriber.Email" />'>test

the email I receive will have

<#cdata-section ><a href='#</#cdata-section>myemail@example.com<#cdata-section >'>test</#cdata-section>

If the cdata blocks were removed it'd allow for dynamic fields in links

Re: Dynamic Content for email

Hi,

Unfortunately, there's not a way to do that. If you make copies of the original email, it should cut down on time.

I'll submit feedback on your behalf.

Thanks,

Personalizing links?

According to the documentation I can add the person's email by entering <Property name="Subscriber.Email"/> but here is my problem. I need to create a clickable link with their email in it and <a href="http://example.com/source?email=<Property name="Subscriber.Email"/>">Link Text does not work, in fact it destroys the entire email.

Viewing source in the email editor finds this format: <varnametype="SUBSCRIBER.EMAIL" id="block_LETTER.BLOCK5.subscriberData">Email</var> which doesn't work any better.

Is there any way to get the subscriber.email variable into a link?

Plenty of programs use things like %subcriber.email% or {subscriber.email} which I have tried with no luck.

Re: Personalizing links?

Hello Michelle,

The <varnametype="SUBSCRIBER.EMAIL" id="block_LETTER.BLOCK5.subscriberData">Email</var> along with the link will not generate in our system. However if you create the link in the custom fields section manually create the whole link for each contact you will be able to generate these links.

For example:

Add click here to view website to the custom field 1 box in the contacts section. After uploading each manually made link into the contacts section, go into your email and edit the block you would like to add the email address link into; and insert the contact details custom text 1.

Note:

There is a maximum of 50 characters allowed in a custom field section, so you may want to use a site like

(tinyurl.com or ow.ly) to shorten the URL.

I have also added this to my user feedback program to add a function that will automate this process.

Re: Personalizing links?

Was this ever resolved, I really want to pre-populate the email address and name within the URL using extended URL variables to pick up in the form, e.g. www.link.com?email=EMAIL&fname=NAME etc.

Re: Personalizing links?

Hi,

It sounds like what you are looking for is a dynamic link. This is a link that you can put in to pull personal information. For example, http://www.yourdomainhere.com/$SUBSCRIBER.EMAIL$ would pull the contacts email address and put it on the end of the link. You can use a number of different variables to pull information based on what you are looking for. For more of the variables and steps on how to set this up please check out this FAQ: Can I create dynamic links in Constant Contact?

There are a couple of things to note: This URL works in Constant Contact templates. If you are looking to create a dynamic link in a custom XHTML email the steps are a little different. Please let me know if that is the case. Also, these links are not trackable and will only work when your email is sent out, not in the test copies.

Hope this helps,

Replace contact's first name in my social campaign promotion email

Hi,

I am looking to promote my social campaign using an email blast to my contacts, but am running into an issue with the email template.

How do I send emails to my contact list with my contact's first name replaced in the salutation (e.g. Dear Joe)?

Thanks,

Re: Replace contact's first name in my social campaign promotion email

Hi Anirban,

I took a look at your account to see how the email was being created. Since you are using the quick email version in the promotion screen unfortunately you are not able to include the contact details. I have a great suggestion as a workaround through, you can add a free trial of Email Marketing! This would give you 60-days for free and when it was over you would not need to take any action.

If you are interested in starting this, please click the Email Marketing tab and then the "Start Free Trial" button! You can choose a template, customize it as much or as little as you would like and send it to your contacts to promote your Facebook page and the campaign. This is how you would include first names.

Hope this helps,

Demo account - Custom Fields?

Is it possible to include the custome fields in an email with the trial version? When I try to include any Custom Field i.e. custom field 1 it shows the text "Custom Field 1" in the email instead of the value that I have in that field.
