How do I prevent the background pattern from tiling?

I have a background image I want to use for my newsletter which includes a tiled pattern, that flows via gradient into a single color towards the bottom of the image. I would like to use this image as a single background image, instead of having it tile across the background. Is there a way to do this?

Or, alternatively, is there a way to have both a tiled pattern AND a gradient?

Thanks

Hey @LuisO4152!

Thanks for reaching out to the Community with your questions! At this time when you add a background image to a template in the third generation editor there is no way to prevent the image from tiling. Also, because you are limited to selecting one image for the background there would not be a way to have a gradient and a tiled image. This is something that I can pass along feedback on for you in hopes we can offer this option for you in the future.

In the meantime, I did locate a Design Tip in this help article that stated: "The best background images appear seamless so you can't tell where one tile ends and the next begins. If you're looking for a subtle image that tiles correctly, there are hundreds of opensource images available from Toptal.com." This may help you find a better image that works for your needs.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Ah ok. I think I'll have to use a texture pattern that tiles well instead then. That's disappointing that there's no solution to that currently, but that would be great if you could pass that feedback along, as I think that more background options could be very useful (and presumably easy to introduce).

Thank you for the prompt reply though.

Re: How do I prevent the background pattern from tiling?

Well, it's been a year since this issue was raised.

Does Constant Contact have a recommended image size for their backgrounds? Free services like Facebook and Twitter have a set dimension for cover photos and profile photos. Is it possible to have a recommended size, or at least a series of recommended sizes for different email clients?

Re: How do I prevent the background pattern from tiling?

Hi @SeanM326,

Thank you for reaching out to us, that is a great question! 600 pixels wide would be great for a background image, as this would prevent the image from tiling in the editor. However, please note that width may not necessarily prevent tiling for the inbox because each email provider is slightly different. We also have a recommended image file size for uploading other types of images. Please click here to see all of our recommended image file sizes.
