Image alignment on Android devices

Good morning to all!

I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and if there is potentially a solution. Our newsletter looks great on desktop and from what I'm told, it's rendering properly on iPhone as well.

But when viewed on an Android Device, the images get left-aligned when they were supposed to be centered. I once had this occur with some text fields, but the problem went away when I deleted and re-created the text box.

Deleting and re-inserting the images does not solve the issue however, so I am wondering if this is a persistent known issue or if there is something wrong with our design. I was not able to find anything on your knowledge-base or by searching past conversations. Let me know what you think!

Many thanks,

Udi

Re: Image alignment on Android devices

So I messed around with some other templates with the same result each time -- which means the problem is not with our design. It is either something in the Constant Contact code or a lack of rendering ability in the Android Gmail client.

However, good news -- I was able to find a workaround. I created a 3-column layout; emptied out the left and right columns; shrank them to the minimum possible size; aaaand put my desired images in the center column. So the side columns essentially act like horizontal spacers, creating an artificial centering effect.

This seems to work well enough with no undesirable side effects so far. I'll update here if it results in any problems down the road.

Hello @LindaR316,

Thank you for bringing this to the community!

We appreciate your feedback and diligence in testing. I was unable to recreate this issue on an Android device; however, if you are finding that this is an issue in the future please send an email to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com with your username and screenshots. We will be happy to help!

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Re: Image alignment on Android devices

Thanks Curtis, when I get some time I'll certainly take some screenshots and send them over to you guys. I've only tested it on the two phones available to me, but they're a few versions of Android apart and both reacted the same way.

Although I did only test the default GMail client -- is that what you tested it with? Perhaps I should have specified that in the topic title rather than saying Android.

In the meantime, my workaround seems to work alright too.

Thanks for following up

Re: Image alignment on Android devices

Hello @LindaR316,

I tested the latest email campaign to be sent from your account in the Gmail Android app and the stock Android email app. They both displayed mobile responsive to me. I just want to make sure we're all working on the same campaign. Would you be able to provide me with the name of a campaign where you are seeing this issue? If possible, could you include screenshots of what you see on your Android devices, and what email addresses you're testing with (specifically, the domain like Gmail or a custom domain)? You can email them to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com along with your username and a reference to this post. We're also reaching out to our upper level of support for more information and I will respond here if I learn anything new!

Re: Image alignment on Android devices

Hello @LindaR316,

I just wanted to provide an update on the investigation by our upper level of support. They ultimately came to the same conclusion as our initial attempts at replication, which is, none of us have been able to. On one hand, it gives me the impression that the percentage of potential contacts that might experience this is very small, but we don't want to give up hope yet.

I will just reiterate that having screenshots of what you're seeing would be very useful, as well as the exact devices you've tested it on (phone brand/model, is the operating system up-to-date, etc.), and the email addresses that were tested with (as well as their domains)? They can be sent to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com along with your username. Thank you!

Re: Image alignment on Android devices

I have the same problem with image alignment, and the suggestion to (1) add 3 columns, (2) put the image in the center column, and then (3) delete the left/right columns worked.

I took a brief look at the code and found the following statement, which could be the culprit.

<td align="left" class="content editor-col OneColumnMobile" valign="top" width="100%">

It's the outer left alignment of nested tables and might be taking precedent over the inner image center alignment.  Below is more html showing the tables. If you need screen shots, more details, or someone to test the code feel free to reach out.

First Table

<div class=""><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="galileo-ap-layout-editor" style="min-width: 100%;" width="100%">
<tbody><tr>
<td align="left" class="content editor-col OneColumnMobile" valign="top" width="100%">
<div class="gl-contains-spacer">

Second Table
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="editor-spacer" width="100%">
<tbody><tr>
<td align="center" class="spacer-container" valign="top">

Third Table
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
<tbody><tr>
<td align="center" class="spacer-base" style="height: 1px; line-height: 1px; padding-bottom: 10px;" valign="top" width="100%">
<div><img alt="" border="0" height="1" hspace="0" src="https://imgssl.constantcontact.com/letters/images/sys/S.gif" style="display: block; height: 1px; width: 5px;" vspace="0" width="5"></div>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>  End Third Table
</td>
</tr>
</tbody></table></div>  End Second Table
<div class="gl-contains-image">

Fourth Table with the image that aligns left
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="editor-image content-container" width="100%">
<tbody><tr>
<td align="center" style="padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" valign="top">
<div class="publish-container"> <img alt="Tiina Smith Exceptional Fine Jewelry" border="0" class="" hspace="0" src="http://files.constantcontact.com/ede2fe00701/9b5796af-d661-4894-83a7-2f52b7d59f59.jpg" style="display: block; height: auto; max-width: 100%;" vspace="0" width="244">
</div>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody></table></div>
