Would like to be able to copy/paste formatted info from Microsoft Word to Constant Contact

We have a daily email that goes out. The person who prepares the content creates it in Microsoft Word with the font he wants to use (Calibri 12) and the formatting (bold, italics, etc.).

 

If he copies this into a block in Constant Contact, even after clearing all the styles for the block, it looks fine. However, recipients do not always see the info in the desired Calibri 12 font, even if he selects all the text again in Constant Contact and formats it to Calibri 12.

 

For example, while it might look right in Outlook, iPhone users with the latest OS (from September 2016) see it in Times New Roman. I will add that prior to the OS update on iPhones, it was working just fine.

 

Support reps tell us that Word just conflicts with Constant Contact, and there's nothing that can be done except to clear all the styles after pasting (thus removing bold, italics, etc.), and setting up desired formatting in Constant Contact again.

 

The whole world uses Microsoft Word and/or iPhones. It seems like CC might come up with a way to be compatible with these platforms.

I apologize for any frustrations you're experiencing with using copied text in your email campaign. To ensure the text for your email campaign looks good across most email clients and devices we do recommend using the Clear Styles button, and even sometimes a text editor to "strip out" the formatting before pasting it into your campaign. It's important to understand that copied text from other sources (such as Microsoft Word, a web page, an email, etc.) sometimes include additional formatting, even if it doesn't appear to be formatted.

 

An analogy that might help is to think of Constant Contact as the envelope and the text as the letter -- the letter almost always needs to be folded to fit into the envelope. Thus, there's the need for some formatting when using copied text.

 

In addition, because each email client has different ways of displaying your email content, you'll want to send a test version of it to ensure it is displaying consistently across multiple email clients and devices. Web based email programs can also cause emails to appear differently in different browsers.

 

As far as the font changing from Calibri to Times New Roman this is due to the web browser reading code that tells it which font to display. If the font isn't available on that computer or device, the web browser substitutes the font for one that is available, which can make your email design look different than you intended it to.

For best results Constant Contact provides general web-safe fonts as well as other non-standard fonts. Web-safe fonts have the highest likelihood of being installed on the broadest array of computers and devices, so they are less likely to impact your email design.

Nichelle tried, but she didn't really help the question. The question (my paraphrase) is how do I get constant contact to accept some standard, off the shelf, formatting MS Word without garbling it. The answer, of course, is that Constant Contact can't do it. But instead of saying that (except only in passing), she spent the article restating what the questioner had said already, that after years and years of practice, CC still can't accept Word processing data from the world's largest, most popular word processor.  

How many decades will it take before CC discovers that that is really a problem?

I am very sorry for any inconvenience our editor has caused. You are correct, it does not flawlessly accept text from sources such as MS Word, as it reads any underlying code that has been copied and pasted along with the text. This is an issue that presents itself across other email editors, not just those of Constant Contact. At this time, the only options available are the clear styles function, or for the copied text to be stripped of styles using a simple text editor. I tracked your feedback, and should there be an update, we will be sure to have you notified. Thank you for your understanding.

I have heard that someone has come up with an app that does this. It copies the formatting you put your article in, in Word, and then strips it out. Then when you paste the text and pics into CC, it adds back the formatting. Seems like magic to me, but if anyone knows about it and knows where to find it, I'd be willing to part with some cash to buy such a thing.

To your statement, "should there be an update, we will be sure to have you notified," please do that for all of us who have hit up against this common problem. As one of the users above noted, it's pretty remarkable that CC would not find some way, after all these years, to become compatible with the world's largest and most frequently used word processor. But if, sometime before my retirement, you do get there, please let us know. All of us. There are a LOT of people who have this problem.

I am not aware of any application that clears formatting to be placed into another program. That would be quite a useful tool to be able to use. I will be sure to add you to the list for updates on improving copy and paste functionality from Word and other programs.
