add the forward to a friend feature

Hey all,

I wanted to chime in on this thread regarding the lack of Forward to a Friend in the third-generation editor. The simplest answer is that due to lack of usage in our previous editor (both our users inserting this link, and recipients using this link) we decided not to implement the feature. We also wanted to solve for cases where this feature was used as a workaround (such as getting around possible display issues), with other features or improvements to the editor. With our current editor being under active development, we want to focus on the latest and greatest features that will bring as much value as possible to our users. While I can understand that some users found this feature valuable, our plan is not to rebuild the second-generation editor, but rather to learn from its mistakes/successes to create a new, best-in-class editor.

To address some of the concerns around the lack of this feature:

  1. Display concerns: some folks like the peace of mind knowing that users can see a “clean-copy” of their email. As a work-around for this I would recommend including the recently released feature, “View as Webpage”. This will link to the web version of your email without any potential display issues, and it will not have any personal information of the original recipient.
  2. Referrals and new signups: we recommend including a link to a signup form within emails that you’re hoping will be referred along.
  3. Roadmap: we are currently developing a feature called “Social Share Bar” which will enable the ability for emails to be shared on social sites like Facebook and Twitter. This is on par with a feature in our second-generation editor; however we’ll be taking a slightly different approach to how this works and is placed within emails. The hope is that this feature will be another way to get emails shared on more channels and therefore attract more subscribers.

I love all the feedback I’ve been reading on the third-generation editor and the team is looking forward to continuing to deliver awesome new features into 2018. Stay tuned for some great new features coming out first thing in January!

Re: Forward Friend option

Hello @EuroStarsG

Thank you for posting within the Community about this. After looking at your account, it does appear that you are using our 3rd Generation Editor (3GE). Within this editor, the Forward to a Friend buttons are not currently available. I am sorry for the misleading articles around this. I can recommend that our team that updates the articles makes it a little clearer that this feature is available only within our 2nd Generation Editor (2GE).

Our teams are currently collecting feedback around our customers who want this feature in their accounts, and I have tracked that you would like this feature. If you would like I can set up notifications to go to you if there are any updates around the request for this feature.

Re: Forward Friend option

I would also like this feature available in the new editor, please.

I realized in the Knowledge Base that what you show looks drastically different than what I have and I was worried that it meant we lost features.  It is helpful to have access to a "forward to a friend" button, given we can still access the form on the backend in our account settings --- but can't actually use it in the editor. 😐

Thanks!

Re: Forward Friend option

Hello @ORPA,

Thank you for the feedback! I have tracked this in your account. And thank you for pointing out it is still visible in the My Settings area. That's a great observation and one I will pass along to the developers as well.

Re: Forward Friend option

As a former CC user I relied on the forward feature to allow me to track the reach of my email campaigns - regardless of whether anyone subscribed as a result. I manage a partner membership and being able to see where my emails are forwarded helpsme understand the behavior within a member organization. This the primary reason I returned to CC as a customer and I am very disappointed to find that this functionality is no longer available.

Re: Forward Friend option

Hello @NancyB6,

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the feature not being available in the third-generation editor. I understand how this would be a useful feature to have. I have created a case to our developers with your request and set it to have you notified if the feature is implemented.

Re: Forward Friend option

The new 3rd Generation Editor (3GE) is missing so many functions and seems to be more challenging (after upgrading from 2nd - 3rd gen.) to work with your tools.
By removing this "Forward to a Friend" option, we will not be able to present our emails to our customers offering them a discount to them and their friends properly.
This is a function we've been using for some time and it works.

We also lost the ability to use the HTML button where we use the block set up and tweak the minor design changes AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY. This is also hindered our flexibilty to design good emails. Now we don't have complete control like we did before. At this point I would rather go back to the 2nd generation editor...

In addition, when we call and email, no one ever gets back to us. I had to send 3 emails last time for someone to reply. Very disappointing service.

Re: Forward Friend option

Hello @MonicaL00. Thank you for the feedback about our Forward to a Friend feature. While the feature is not currently on the roadmap to be brought back in our third-generation editor, our Product team is looking into different ways to have your emails be forwarded without disrupting the layout and prevent accidental unsubscribes.

Also, in regards to not having access to the HTML in the third-generation editor, can I ask what design changes you were looking to make when creating your emails? I want to see if there is a way that we can still make these changes in your email. I did want to let you know that you can still make copies of any emails created using our second-generation editor and you will have access to that editor.

Re: Forward Friend option

Hello Caitlin~
Thank you for your reply.

For Forward to a Friend:
It would be helpful to use that link that becomes available after the email sends - ie. "Email Link: http://conta.cc/123abc..."

For the need of the HTML Button:
1. Font size - your sizes are not in succession. If I'm making font sizes, it would be easier to have more choices. Your sizes typically jump and I like to be able to use any size font ~ hence the need for the HTML Button. They do not include 13pts - 11, 12, 14... = I would typically adjust the size to suit my custom needs, whether it be 13 or 3.

I reached out via email and received this 3 days later:
"Now to address your points specifically and what can be done. The fonts sizes are currently limited to the choices on the drop down. In order to decrease the white space between blocks (the editor is designed such that a center aligned image should stand alone) you can right click the image and check off the padding..."

2. image alignment:
There is no center alignment to the image when I drag it into a text block = only left or right. And can’t insert text in the same block under an image (as i did previously in gen-2 editor). It separates them. Then the text is too far away from the image.

3. padding and margins:
Too big/bulky in some blocks and I can not decrease it manually.

* How will I get access to the 2nd Generation Editor?

Re: Forward Friend option

Hi @MonicaL00,

Thank you for the feedback! I completely understand the need for these features so I'll be sure to pass your ideas along to the appropriate channel. I'd like to share an article that might assist as far as placement of images. See guide: Moving from the Second-Generation Editor to the Third-Generation Editor.

There is now a feature to align images as well, including center align. image alignment.png

At this time now, the way to access the 2nd generation editor is to make a copy of an email that was originally created with that editor. You would be able to access it with a new template, as they are formatted to be edited only with the 3rd generation editor.

Please let us know if there is any other way we can help!

Re: Forward Friend option

Liz~

I'm a bit confused by your last post about the 2nd generation editor -

"At this time now, the way to access the 2nd generation editor is to make a copy of an email that was originally created with that editor. You would be able to access it with a new template, as they are formatted to be edited only with the 3rd generation editor."

Are you sure?

In addtion to you mentioned
"There is now a feature to align images as well, including center align."

Here's my screenshot of the issue I had where when I inserted the image and it only aligned left or right no center.

Still confused...
