Embedded Archive: Customizing its Appearance

CTCT Employee

Hi. I am a part of the team that created the Embeddable Archive feature and we are really excited about the product and the opportunity it gives our customers to customize their Archive list to appear directly on their own web pages. Since launching this product, we have had some feedback that our customers would like to customize the appearance of that list, so we are providing a few examples to show how to make a few different appearance customizations.

In all of these examples, please be sure to replace my archive code snippet with your own snippet! Otherwise your site will just be displaying my own archived emails, which you definitely don’t want. (Reminder: I’m referring to the HTML snippet you get when you go to your “My Campaigns” page and click the gear next to “Archived Campaigns”, take a look here if you need some help finding it.)

Basically what these examples are doing are styling the appearance of the Archive list by preceding the html code snippet with a <style></style> section. Please note that these styles might not cooperate with the existing styles on your website, so please closely examine your page to make sure it still looks exactly the way you want after trying out these changes.

1. To make your list bulleted, with hollow circles for bullets:

<style>
       #archiveList > ul {
          list-style-type: circle;
          list-style-position: inside;
        }
</style>
<!--Begin CTCT Archive-->
<script id="archiveScript" src="//static.ctctcdn.com/js/archive-static/current/archive-static.min.js"></script> <div id="archiveList" data-archive-count="10" data-m="a07ea78e8ui0"></div>
<!--End CTCT Archive-->

Tip: There are many different bullet types you can use by changing the value of "circle". Choices include "square", "disc" (filled in circle), "decimal" (numbered list).

2. To increase line height to create more space between the list items:

<style>
        #archiveList {
          line-height: 2;
        }
</style>
<!--Begin CTCT Archive-->
<script id="archiveScript" src="//static.ctctcdn.com/js/archive-static/current/archive-static.min.js"></script> <div id="archiveList" data-archive-count="10" data-m="a07ea78e8ui0"></div>
<!--End CTCT Archive-->

Tip: Change the value of "line-height" to any number besides 2.

3. To change the color of the links to black:

<style>
        #archiveList a {
          color: #000000;
        }
      </style>
<!--Begin CTCT Archive-->
<script id="archiveScript" src="//static.ctctcdn.com/js/archive-static/current/archive-static.min.js"></script> <div id="archiveList" data-archive-count="10" data-m="a07ea78e8ui0"></div>
<!--End CTCT Archive-->

Tip: Want a color other than black? Replace the Hex value (#000000) with any color of your choice! More: HTML Color Picker - W3 Schools

4. To combine all of the previous three style change (this is just to demonstrate that you can combine multiple stylings as desired):

<style>
        #archiveList {
          line-height: 2;
        }
        #archiveList > ul {
          list-style-type: circle;
          list-style-position: inside;
        }
        #archiveList a {
          color: #000000;
        }
</style>

Hello Sara,

At this time the archive can only have the title. We are tracking customer requests for adding additional options to the archive. I would suggest posting in our feedback area here with what you would like to see, so that we can see interest among other customers or sending your feedback to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com with your username so that we can track for you.

Thanks,

Samantha

Hello @StanleyA

The change in our archive product is recent. This feature was released in our updated experience in September.  In our older platform, the archive experience was different - it included a homepage that was editable and different process for archiving emails in general. I will track your feedback in our system for the features that you have requested - changing the name of the archive and being able to edit the order that they are listed. If you have any other feedback about this, please feel free to post here or in our feedback area of the Community

If you want us to take a look at what is going on with the embeddable archive code that is not working for you, please feel free to reach out to us here or at social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com.

Thanks,

Samantha

I couldn't find any other article concerning editing the embedded archive script, so I'll comment on this one. Is there a way to filter the email archives the script pulls in? We have multiple types of recurring emails, but we only want to show one type in a specified archive page. Can we filter on title/subject?

Hi @BenJumper,

Just to be sure I am understanding your question correctly, you have some recurring emails but only want to archive certian ones by automatically filtering them onto your website by title/ subject?

By clicking the "Actions" button accross from any sent email in your acount, you should be able to "Archive" or "Unarchive" any email. So, you should be in control of what emails are displayed on your Archive page on your website, but it will not be automatic. Because you have to manually select the emails you want to Archive, we don't have any abilities to filter emails by titles or subject lines to automatically Archive.

We are tracking requests from custoemrs for adding additional options to the archive feature. I recommend posting in our feedback area with what you would like to see, so that we can see interest among other customers or sending your feedback to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com with your username so that we can track for you.

Sure would like the archive to display the newest email at the top of the stack.  It looks like the order is oldest to newest emails in each month, sorted by oldest email of the current month on top, followed by the older months.  For example, by default my archive comes out:

Dec 1

Dec 8

Nov 10

Nov 17

What I would like to set is:

Dec 8

Dec 1

Nov 17

Nov 10
