Release Notes: January 2018

Welcome to the January 2018 Release Notes! You’ll find the major highlights from our release in January listed below and you can find a list of other smaller updates and fixes here.

Editor’s Note: Happy New Years from all of us at Constant Contact! We want to thank you for a great 2017 and are looking forward to an even better 2018! If you haven’t seen our Thank You video yet, take a look here to watch.

Changes & Updates:

  • We’ve updated the screen that appears when you delete a contact list. Now, you’re only presented with one option - Delete the List. Previously, you had options to delete the list or delete the list and contacts. We listened to our customers feedback about this process and updated it for simpler contact and list management. Now, it functions this way:
    • When you choose to delete the list, if there are contacts that reside only on that list, then they will also be removed from your account. Let's take a look at an example. Say I have a List called "List A" with 2 email addresses - and The email address is in a couple of other lists in my account, but is not, it is only in List A. If I delete List A, then, will still be an active contact in my account and remain in the other lists; however, will be removed from my account so that it is no longer counting towards my billable contacts. In order to ensure that you have a backup of all of your contacts, before deleting a list, you may want to export the list and save a copy to your computer as a backup.
  • If you have an email campaign created with the Second Generation Editor (2GE), the template name now has a “Legacy” label to help you identify which editor is being used.
  • An update to the navigation bar in your account. You will now see “Help” and the account owner’s name at the top right of the screen (this replaces the ? icon and the person icon). All of your menu options are still available, just with a new updated look. Tell us what you think!

  • Text Highlighting available in 3GE! You can now select text and choose to add a Highlight color to it. Learn More here

  • Instead of using the drag & drop functionality to add a block to your 3GE email you can also double-click on a block and it will be added to your email draft. In the past, you would only need to click once, but to avoid confusion and extra blocks, we’ve updated it to two clicks.
  • The Insert Video Block now supports Wistia videos. This means that the entire list of supported video URLs are: YouTube, Vimeo, and the newly added Wistia! Find out more about inserting videos in 3GE here.
  • Updates to the Social Block - Now when you edit the Social block in 3GE, instead of the overlay window (the one that pops up in the middle of your screen), you will see a menu appear to the left where the Build Menu appears. In this menu, you will be able to add, reorder, and edit the social media icons. We also added a Styles button which allows you to choose all black, all gray, or full color icons for your social media sites. This new way of editing allows you to see your changes right as you make them in the design of your campaign!  Find out more here

  • The My Account page got a facelift!  There are no changes to the functionality of the page, but the layout and design was updated to match what you see throughout the rest of your account.

You Asked, We Delivered:

  • If you were having issues after purchasing a Stock Image with them displaying in your account/campaigns, we have fixed this issue moving forward.
  • When you were on the My Settings or Pricing page in your account, it was hard to navigate back to the My Account page. We improved the experience to make it super simple and easy to get back to your account details.
  • Improved functionality of resending campaigns when you have selected to narrow down your list using tags.

Coming Soon:

  • Social Share bar for 3GE!
  • The ability to add notes to the marketing calendar.
  • Convert any email to an A/B Subject Line Test campaign.

In an effort to give our customers more information about our regular releases, we are adding a PDF link with additional details. This PDF will show you some of the more technical details around our release and some of the smaller, but still impactful, items. We have also moved template updates to the PDF list. Take a look at the list for January here.

Hello, my name is Samantha and I started working at Constant Contact in September of 2011 as a Customer Engagement Specialist. I started on the Community and Social Media Support team in March of 2014. I am now the Constant Contact Community Manager! Outside of work I am mostly spending time hanging out with my pets (1 dog and 2 cats), binge watching shows, or reading. I am always interested in learning more about our customers, how others use the Community, and how we can help to make the Community better for our members.
