Currently, in our Third Generation Editor we do not allow access to edit the HTML and have no immediate plans to do so. We want to provide our customers with the abilities to be able to use a user-friendly interface instead of having to rely on a code view to get their desired results. With all the feedback we have been collecting we are planning on making improvements to padding and adding some line spacing elements in the UI. I know this doesn’t solve all use cases, such as adding tables, but we will continue to make strides towards improving the editor.
I understand allowing HTML would increase the ability for more control of your content but it can also have a negative impact on your newsletter’s display in email clients. If we provide access to HTML for every block, changing some of the default styles or content could break display when sent to an email client. Also being able to manually adjust width could have a negative effect. We have a team of amazing engineers constantly testing our templates in all email clients, so you can be certain your email displays consistently across the board. With that in mind, we want to make sure we make it easy to provide the best look and feel not only on the desktop but on mobile. With a majority of opens now leaning towards mobile over desktop we take that as a priority.
Please continue to let us know your thoughts on HTML and what exactly you're trying to do so even if we don't have HTML access we will be able to give you the tools to get your desired outcome.

I'm chiming in here to echo some of Sue's feedback. I started trying to use the 3rd generation editor today and I am shocked that HTML is not accessible. In anticipating the switch, I had already gone ahead and copied several sections of HTML code from my 2nd gen campaigns so that I could easily recreate those blocks within the 3rd gen editor. Come to find out, that's useless.
To reuse content, you suggest copying the whole campaign, but for our company, this isn't a suitable solution. I am often combining elements from several different previous campaigns into a new campaign, or copying a block from a year-old campaign to update with this year's info and in that time the style or other elements of our regular campaigns has changed such that to copy and update a whole year-old campaign would be a ridiculous waste of time. To illustrate: Let's say we held an event last spring (2017) that we're hosting again and I want to promote it in my newsletter the same way (same photo, layout, general info) but update the time and date and maybe put a fresh spin on the body copy. In 2nd gen, I would open up that OLD email, copy the HTML from the block, and paste it into my new email, alongside all the other current events and new info that I'm sharing with our audience. I would never copy the entire campaign from 2017 just to reuse the one block about the event and replace everything else. So it looks like now my choice is to just rebuild everything we've ever made in the 3rd gen editor AND rebuild it every time we want to use it in the future, or stick with the 2nd gen editor for now. Unfortunately, for this and other reasons, it looks like we'll be forced to stay with the 2nd gen editor.
Thank you for the feedback! That's exactly the kind of info we're collecting to pass on to our engineering teams, so they know why people are wanting specific features. I'll add you to the feature requests both for generic html blocks being added, and also for the ability to copy blocks from one campaign to another. If you have any other ideas on how we can improve our new system, definitely let us know so we can keep trying to make more improvements.
I just encountered yet another problem with not having access to html coding in the 3G editor, which is that there does not seem to be any way to have a paragraph indented, or a block that is less than the full width of the email.
I have text with a paragraph I want to indent. Maybe the <blockquote> code is not mobile friendly, I don't know, but there must be some way to do this. I tried making separate text blocks, but there seems to be no way to create a text block with padding left and right.
I hope you will find some way to implement the ability to do this. For now I guess I'll recreate the email lin the 2G editor.
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I do apologize that our third generation templates do not have access to the HTML code. Due to the lack of HTML code access, indenting a paragraph is not an available feature at this time.

Agreed! And the only way to make an M dash is in html because CC doesn't have M dash feature (unless something had changed).
My point, however, was that even in the 2nd generation editor with the html coding window, I was never able to get an em dash to display. I would put the code in but it didn't work. Any of the various html codes avaialble for em dashes.
If someone did make it work in the 2nd gen editor I'd love to know how, as I have continued to use it for some of our work.
Thank you for your reply. For an en or em dash, this code could work: — in the HTML.
However, if it does not work, you could try using this code instead:
<span style="letter-spacing: -3px;">--- </span>
It is dashes with a negative letter spacing. Add more dashes as needed for an em dash.

Being unable to edit any html or CSS in your new editor is very frustrating and made me switch back to the old editor. I VERY much hope you allow your users to access html and css in the email templates. It is frustrating to not be able to take advantage of the AB testing in the new editor, knowing that I would be sacrificing the ability to tweak and customize the email templates.

You are also correct in that subject line A/B testing is only available in 3GE. We have forwarded your feedback to our programmers but would also like to extend our help! Please let us know if there's something in particular that we can help you format within a 3GE email template so that you're able to utilize subject line A/B testing. It's a great tool for helping to improve open rates and we definitely want you to be able to use it!
