Inserting personalized subject line in test email

I am sending out a test email and the subject line did not personalize even though I have the right subscription plan and first name for my contacts. Does that feature not work for the test email setting?

Subject line personalization doesn't function with test sends. If you've inserted the personalization correctly (not typed it out, actually used the personalize button), then it will populate with the contact info if applicable.
