Outer background

I've noticed in recent e-mail campaigns that I am creating that the outer background that I usually customize for holidays, themes etc. all but disappears when viewed on a mobile device. It shows just fine on desktop. Why is this?

• Was the email forwarded to you or a direct send?
• Was this a live send or a test email?
• What app are you using to view the email?
• Are you using dark mode?

It is in Test/Preview mode and I am using a laptop to create my e-mails so no app.

What app are you using to view the email - as in when you check the test / live sendout, are you using the Gmail App, Apple Mail app, Outlook app, etc.?

Are you using dark mode? Is the background something that would be actually seen with the very thin sliver that most email apps let through when displaying the email?
