I am attempting to upload a csv file to quickly update our contact list. I used to not have issues with this but lately it has turned out an error message when it tries to scan the file to match the fields. The file appears to upload succesfully the issue comes in the processing part. I also tried changing the format to xls file and had the same result.

Please see our article on formatting contact files, to see if there's something in the file that's incompatible with the editor- even if it's just something that was overlooked with your recent versions. It's possible a custom field was renamed and no longer matches, or something else is occurring.
If you've confirmed that everything about the file fits with our formatting guidelines, and still won't upload, then please call general support so they can collect the file and investigate further.
If you're still having issues after having the file thoroughly checked, then my last recommendation would be to try this URL for the file upload: https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/contacts/import#imports/new_by_file (only accessible when logged into an account).
